Head Chef

to join our team in

Hurstpierpoint College, BN6 9JS

, and play a key role in driving excellence and innovation in our culinary operations. You'll work closely with the Executive Head at Hurst College to ensure that food standards across the school are of a consistently high standard of quality and presentation; ensuring that the Independents by Sodexo Fresh Food from Scratch Strategy is rolled out in every unit, and that the school is complying with all food policies and legislation.

About the Role



Deliver the culinary strategy for Hurst College and Independents By Sodexo, ensuring "best in class" food and service while continually monitoring and implementing necessary changes. Manage and direct the senior culinary team, ensuring compliance with their roles and instigating development plans where necessary, in line with the Capability Policy and Guidelines. Develop the craft skills of the kitchen team through training, coaching, and mentoring, while ensuring compliance with company standards in food quality and implementation. Conduct performance management activities, including capability, disciplinary, or counselling as required, while also attending an annual EPA with your Line Manager to review training and development needs. Ensure high standards of health, hygiene, and food safety are maintained across the site, addressing any breaches with action plans as needed. Actively seek opportunities for business growth within the contract and the external market, ensuring compliance with Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators. Ensure all Sodexo employees present a positive, approachable, friendly, and professional image, providing feedback to management where necessary, and regularly review performance and objectives with your line manager.

What We're Looking For



Essential



Kitchen operation manages a 1.7m food spend so proven Experience in managing and leading a large team is essential

Senior kitchen leadership experience with at least Food Safety Level 2 Experienced in fast-paced kitchen environments with a passion for food and service excellence Industry Acumen and knowledge of catering developments & innovations Strong financial understanding and demonstrable in understanding budgets Experienced in adhering to and driving company initiatives Proven ability communicating at different levels Strong communication and negotiation skills Experience working in a standards/compliance environment Holds relevant culinary and Health & Safety qualifications, with a focus on continuous improvement Passion for leading, managing people and creating an inspirational food operation. Relevant qualification and training IT literate

Desirable



Trainer/Coaching skills qualification Ability to coach and mentor on a one-to-one basis

Package Description



Salary up to 45k per annum BOE + Sodexo Benefits 40 hours per week 5 out of 6 (Monday to Saturday) Attractive over time opportunities. Meals while on shift Meals on duty. Be part of an Inclusive supportive and developed team. Free parking on site.
