We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head Chef to lead our small but growing kitchen delivering exceptional dining experiences in a unique setting. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of kitchen operations, ensuring high standards of food quality, safety, and presentation. The Head Chef will be responsible for supervising kitchen staff, managing food production, managing gross margins, wastage and menus as well as maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
Lead and supervise the kitchen to ensure efficient and smooth operations, guiding team members in the correct presentation of dishes and service requirements.
Food preparation, cooking, and presentation to meet quality standards required by the owners as well as EHO.
Develop innovative menus in collaboration with management, considering customer preferences and seasonal ingredients as well as events, trends and the annual calendar of popular dining dates such as Christmas and bank holiday weekends.
Manage food safety protocols, ensuring compliance with hygiene standards and legal requirements
Organise staff schedules, delegate tasks as appropriate, and monitor performance to foster a motivated team environment, recruiting where necessary to fill gaps or maintain quality of service.
Control stock levels, order supplies, and manage inventory to minimise waste and maximise efficiency, monitor prices and margins to ensure ongoing effective kitchen returns.
Train new staff members in food preparation techniques, safety procedures, and service standards
Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service delivery, providing necessary verbal and written information in a timely manner.
Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen area in accordance with health regulations
Monitor customer feedback and implement improvements or changes to enhance overall satisfaction and meet upcoming trends and seasonal activities.
Qualifications
Proven supervising experience within a professional kitchen environment preferably in a role as a head chef or strong second previously.
Extensive culinary experience with a strong background in food production and preparation
Ability to work alone but demonstrate leadership skills with the ability to manage a diverse team effectively and build a strong team around the principles of the business.
Solid understanding of food safety regulations and best practices in hygiene management
Previous restaurant or hospitality experience is highly desirable
Excellent cooking skills across a variety of cuisines and styles
Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask under pressure
Knowledge of serving procedures and customer service principles is advantageous
