Job Summary


We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead our kitchen team at our thriving, busy cafe! Seats 60 comfortably. Daytime hours 8am to 5pm.

Someone keen to grow our menu, working with our passionate and skilled kitchen team and local suppliers to create experiences with every dish.

We have capabilities within our business with our own bakery for traybake wholesale supply and our own bread / pastry which has recently launched and we hope with every dish you create you can lean on local suppliers, and our own bread supply to create experiences for our loyal, returning customers. Such as sourdoughs, focaccias, baguettes, bagels ... the list is endless and the product quality so high!

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of food preparation and kitchen operations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality dishes that meet our standards.

This role requires strong leadership, organisational skills, and a deep understanding of food safety and hospitality practices.

The Head Chef will play a vital role in shaping the culinary direction of our establishment while maintaining a welcoming and efficient kitchen environment. The team you would manage is around 5 people, 3 per shift. There is a prep kitchen which is used ad-hoc as well as the main kitchen.

Duties



Lead and supervise the kitchen team, including chefs, cooks, and kitchen assistants, to ensure smooth daily operations Plan and develop menus that reflect current trends and customer preferences while maintaining cost efficiency Oversee food production processes, ensuring dishes are prepared to the highest standards of quality and presentation Manage inventory, order supplies, and control food costs to optimise profitability Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including food safety standards and hygiene practices Train staff on proper food preparation techniques, safety procedures, and service standards Coordinate with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service delivery Monitor kitchen performance, providing feedback and coaching to foster a motivated team environment Maintain organisation within the kitchen, ensuring cleanliness and proper storage of ingredients and equipment

Skills



Proven supervising experience within a busy culinary environment Extensive knowledge of food production, preparation, and cooking techniques Strong team management skills with the ability to lead and motivate staff effectively Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail in food presentation and safety standards Sound understanding of food safety regulations and best practices in hygiene management Experience in restaurant or hospitality settings with a focus on high-quality service delivery Leadership qualities that inspire confidence and foster a collaborative team atmosphere Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently under pressure while maintaining high standards of quality
