Perched above the stunning Tynemouth coastline, the Gibraltar Rock is an iconic pub and restaurant known for amazing food, warm hospitality and unbeatable views across the North Sea. We are now looking for an experienced, creative, hand-on Head Chef to lead our kitchen. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in food preparation, kitchen management, and culinary excellence. This role offers an exciting opportunity to oversee all aspects of kitchen operations, ensuring high standards of food quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. The Head Chef will play a pivotal role in developing innovative menus, supervising staff, and maintaining a vibrant and efficient kitchen environment.
Responsibilities
Lead and supervise the entire kitchen team, including chefs, cooks, and kitchen assistants
Oversee food production processes to ensure consistency, quality, and presentation standards are met
Develop and implement creative menus that align with the restaurant's concept and customer preferences
Manage food safety protocols in compliance with health regulations and standards
Coordinate daily kitchen operations, including ordering supplies, inventory management, and stock control
Train and mentor staff to enhance skills, teamwork, and professional development
Ensure efficient utilisation of resources to minimise waste and optimise productivity
Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment at all times
Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service delivery
Monitor customer feedback to continuously improve food offerings and service standards
Skills
Proven supervising experience within a busy culinary environment
Extensive knowledge of food production techniques and culinary trends
Strong team management skills with the ability to motivate and lead diverse staff members
Excellent food preparation and cooking skills across various cuisines
Solid kitchen experience with an understanding of operational workflows
Demonstrated leadership qualities with the ability to manage high-pressure situations effectively
Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in hygiene management
Previous experience working in a restaurant or hospitality setting is highly desirable
Exceptional organisational skills with attention to detail in all aspects of kitchen operations
Effective communication skills for clear instruction and team coordination
