Head Cook
who is skilled, caring, and committed to delivering
seasonal, nutritious menus
that support the physical and cognitive wellbeing of our elderly and dementia residents.
About the Role
As our Head Cook, you will lead the kitchen in preparing
fresh, balanced and flavoursome meals
using seasonal, high-quality ingredients. You will design menus that promote good health, hydration, and digestion, while supporting residents with memory loss, reduced appetite, or specific dietary needs.
A valued part of the role includes creating
nutritious homemade bakes and treats
for our weekly resident coffee mornings--providing comforting, familiar flavours while encouraging social connection and enjoyment.
Typical hours:
07:30 - 17:30.
Key Responsibilities
Lead on the preparation and cooking of
nutritious, balanced meals
tailored to elderly and dementia care
Create homemade baked goods for resident coffee mornings, offering both traditional and health-conscious options
Plan
seasonal menus
that promote wellbeing, appetite, and enjoyment
Incorporate resident preferences and encourage involvement in menu choices
Cater for a wide range of dietary needs, including modified textures, fortified diets, and specialist nutritional requirements
Manage stock control, ordering, and cost-effective kitchen budgeting
Ensure full compliance with food hygiene, food safety, and infection control standards
Maintain accurate kitchen records, including cleaning schedules and temperature logs
Support a warm, inclusive, homely dining environment for residents
Provide guidance and leadership to kitchen assistants or support staff
About You
You will be:
Passionate about healthy, home-style cooking that supports the needs of older adults
Experienced as a Cook, Senior Cook, or Chef (care home experience beneficial but not essential)
Qualified with Food Hygiene / Food Safety Certificates (or working towards them)
Confident preparing balanced meals for diverse dietary, clinical, and texture-modified needs
Creative and organised, able to run a kitchen independently and efficiently
A supportive team player with good communication skills and a flexible, positive approach
