Full-Time | Permanent | Monday-Friday | Up to 40,000 DOE

Our client is looking for a Head Gardener to manage their gardens and private estate in the Chelford area. The role will oversee approximately 70 acres of beautifully maintained gardens and estate grounds.

Working for a high-net-worth individual and their family, this is a hands-on role requiring strong horticultural knowledge, discretion, and a commitment to maintaining the estate to the very highest standard.

Key Responsibilities

Gardens

Day-to-day care and presentation of all gardens, lawns, borders, and woodland areas. Oversee planting, propagation, and cultivation of plants, trees, and shrubs. Maintain formal and informal planting schemes, greenhouses, and water features. Manage irrigation systems, ensuring effective scheduling and maintenance. Monitor and control pests and diseases. Maintain garden machinery, tools, and supplies; oversee procurement as needed. Carry out timely trimming and shaping of topiary, hedges, and formal areas. Develop and implement seasonal planting and maintenance schedules.
Estate (70 Acres)

Oversee maintenance, repairs, and renovation works across the wider estate. Monitor estate trees and arrange works when required. Manage external contractors and suppliers to ensure high-quality service. Monitor lake conditions and water levels; keep walkways safe and clear. Manage wider grassland areas through appropriate mowing or grazing programmes. Liaise with the estate owner, family, and management team on ongoing projects and improvements.
Requirements

Proven experience as a Head Gardener or Senior Gardener within a private estate or similar environment. Excellent horticultural and plant care expertise. Strong, organisational, and communication skills. Discreet, trustworthy, and professional in a private household setting. Hands-on approach with the ability to plan and work independently. PA1 & PA6 pesticide application licences (desirable). Chainsaw certification (desirable). Full UK driving licence required.
