Royal Norwich Golf Club is a stunning modern golf club set within a 350-acre picturesque woodland site. Formed in 2019 through the amalgamation of historic Royal Norwich and Weston Park Golf Club, the club was restructured in 2024 under private ownership, securing its future.

The club features:

18 holes of highly regarded championship golf and a 6-hole Academy Course, designed by Ross McMurry c. 1,000 members across flexible categories c. 45,000 rounds of golf in 2025 with ambitions to grow Modern clubhouse with flexible suites, conference and event spaces Toptracer bays, a 5 km nature walk, fitness suite, and a Padel court

Job Purpose

The Head Greenkeeper is responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of the golf course and surrounding grounds. This role ensures the course is presented to the highest standard, is safe and enjoyable for golfers, and operates efficiently within budget.

The Head Greenkeeper will lead a team, manage finances and assets, and work collaboratively with the Senior Management Team to contribute to the overall growth of the club.

Key Responsibilities

Course Maintenance & Agronomy

Plan and implement comprehensive maintenance schedules, including mowing, aeration, fertilization, and other cultural practices Maintain mechanical knowledge of golf course equipment and keep up-to-date with industry innovations, including GPS robotic technology Oversee irrigation installation, repair, and general estate management

Staff Management

Lead, recruit, train, and develop a team of 12+ staff Conduct performance appraisals, manage conflicts, and foster a positive working environment Apply HR knowledge effectively in a small team setting

Financial Management

Prepare and manage annual budget exceeding 150k Procure supplies and equipment efficiently Monitor expenditure and ensure cost-effective operations

Health & Safety

Conduct risk assessments and maintain a safe working environment Ensure compliance with chemical application/storage regulations Maintain sound Health & Safety knowledge within the greenkeeping industry

Operations & Projects

Plan, organize, and direct daily golf course operations Oversee small construction projects including greens, tees, bunkers, drainage, water storage, and general improvements Implement policies and procedures for safe and effective course operations

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

Prepare reports on operations and activities for management Recommend course improvements and identify opportunities for development

Equipment & Facilities

Maintain and repair all golf course machinery and equipment Plan for equipment replacement and upgrades

Qualifications & Experience

Level 5 qualification in Golf Course Management, or equivalent degree/experience NVQ Level 2 & 3 in Sports Turf Management; ideally Level 4 or degree in Sports Turf/Business Management Minimum 4 years' experience in a Head Greenkeeper role PA1, PA2 & PA6a spraying qualifications Strong mechanical, agronomic, and operational knowledge Proven leadership and team management skills

Skills & Attributes

Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and capable of inspiring a team Strong financial and operational management skills Knowledge of general estate/woodland management, including tree felling and crosscutting Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a Senior Management Team
