Overview

As the Head Dental Nurse at our Tower Hill clinic, you will lead the nursing team, ensuring high standards of clinical care, fostering teamwork, and supporting the smooth operation of the practice. In addition to your clinical responsibilities, you will mentor and manage the nursing staff, contribute to the practice's success by driving Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), promote 5-star patient experiences, and support Smile Club memberships. You will also train new nurses and work closely with Regional Head Nurses to ensure consistent standards across the group.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management
1. Provide leadership and support to the dental nursing team, ensuring they are trained, motivated, and aligned with Banning Dental Group's values.
2. Oversee the daily clinical operations to maintain smooth workflows and high standards of care.
3. Conduct regular team meetings and one-on-one reviews to monitor performance, address concerns, and provide constructive feedback.
4. Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and training new dental nurses, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to excel.
5. Act as the main point of contact for the nursing team, ensuring effective communication with the practice manager and clinical staff.
6. Monitor adherence to infection control policies, safety protocols, and compliance with General Dental Council (GDC) regulations.
7. Work closely with Regional Head Nurses to maintain and elevate clinical and operational standards across the group.
Clinical Duties
1. Support dentists during a variety of procedures, including general, cosmetic, and specialist treatments offered at Banning Dental Group.
2. Oversee the preparation and maintenance of the clinical environment, ensuring all instruments and equipment are sterilised, organised, and readily available.
3. Assist with complex cases as needed and provide guidance to junior nurses.
4. Ensure all dental materials are prepared accurately and efficiently, tailored to advanced treatments offered at the practice.
5. Take and process X-rays (with appropriate certification) and oversee the use of digital imaging systems within the clinic.
6. Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with data protection policies.
Patient Care
1. Lead by example in delivering exceptional patient care, ensuring every patient feels valued and supported.
2. Address patient concerns professionally and collaboratively with the wider team.
3. Promote 5-star patient experiences by fostering a welcoming and positive environment.
4. Educate patients on the benefits of the Smile Club patient plan and actively encourage enrolment.
5. Ensure continuity of care by supporting post-treatment follow-ups and addressing patient queries.
Driving KPIs and Practice Goals
1. Collaborate with the practice manager and team to set and achieve clinic KPIs, including treatment uptake, patient satisfaction, and operational efficiency.
2. Encourage and monitor team participation in initiatives to promote Smile Club memberships and 5-star reviews.
3. Analyse team performance and implement strategies to improve clinic outcomes and meet targets.
4. Ensure the nursing team actively contributes to the practice's growth and success.
Training and Development
1. Train and mentor new dental nurses, ensuring they are proficient in clinical procedures, infection control, and patient care.
2. Develop and deliver ongoing training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of the nursing team.
3. Foster a culture of continuous professional development within the practice.
4. Liaise with Regional Head Nurses to ensure training programs align with group-wide standards and best practices.
Administrative Duties
1. Oversee scheduling and allocation of nursing resources to ensure optimal coverage across shifts.
2. Manage stock levels for dental supplies and ensure timely orders to maintain clinical operations.
3. Review and update clinic protocols, ensuring alignment with the latest industry standards and Banning Dental Group policies.
4. Collaborate with the practice manager on budgeting, reporting, and operational planning.
5. Support administrative staff with patient inquiries and practice management when needed.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential:
Certified qualification in dental nursing (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Dental Nursing or equivalent).
Registration with the General Dental Council (GDC).
Proven experience in a leadership or senior dental nursing role.
Strong knowledge of infection control protocols and clinical compliance standards.
Desirable:
Experience within a group dental practice, ideally Banning Dental Group or similar.
Additional certifications in areas such as radiography, sedation, or advanced dental treatments.
Proficiency with digital dental systems and practice management software.
