About the Role

We now have an opportunity for an experienced Group Leader to take the lead of our Accelerator Control Systems team at Diamond Light Source. If you\'re passionate about advancing scientific research in a supportive and collaborative environment, we encourage you to explore this exciting opportunity.

As the Group Leader Accelerator Control Systems, you\'ll play a vital role in our success. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the development of the strategy and forward vision for accelerator control systems to support the machine operation and development.
  • Delivering strategic leadership across the accelerator control and technical systems, in conjunction with the relevant technical experts.
  • Reporting to Directors and external advisory committees on strategic direction and the current state of the accelerator control systems.
  • Leading and managing the Diamond Accelerator Control Systems Group to ensure development, implementation, and management of the development plan for the control systems in collaboration with accelerator technical systems owners and the relevant support groups, within the Technical Division and SSCC.
  • Providing a specialist technical advisory/support function within area of expertise to Diamond.
About You

You will hold a Honours degree in a relevant subject or Equivalent other degree plus relevant experience, as well have knowledge and experience in the following areas:
  • Software design and/or programming of industrial or scientific systems.
  • Modern programming languages and techniques.
  • Developing software in a real time distributed control environment.
  • Developing in a Unix environment.
  • Developing with a source code control and structured release environment.
  • Using software testing and debugging tools effectively and developing automated test harnesses.
  • The operation of accelerators.
  • EPICS toolkit.
You will also require:
  • Proven experience in leadership within distributed control systems or software developments.
  • A collaborative and forward-thinking mindset
  • Be willing to travel within the UK and aboard.
