Head Of Data Engineering

London, United Kingdom

Job Description

The Opportunity

Our work couldn\'t be more important, and is of enormous significance to the security of our nation\'s democracy. It enables the UK Parliament to run smoothly, function efficiently and operate transparently, and when you join us as Head of Data Engineering, you\'ll focus on the delivery of a range of robust, best practice-based data services and products.

Building data engineering capability by providing inspired technical leadership and career development for your colleagues, and working with other senior members of your team to identify, plan, develop and deliver data services, you\'ll also:

  • act as a link between the technical and non-technical, managing stakeholder expectations and moderating discussions about high risk and complexity
  • establish enterprise-scale data integration procedures across the data development life cycle, and ensure teams adhere to them
  • investigate emerging trends in data-related approaches, perform horizon-scanning and introduce innovative ways of working
  • establish standards relating to the design of data integration, keep them up to date, and ensure adherence
  • anticipate and identify problems, understand how they fit into the bigger picture and how to prevent them, and build your team\'s problem-solving skills
  • set standards for programming tools and techniques, and select appropriate development methods
  • take responsibility for all the stages and iterations of software development projects, and provide technical advice and guidance to stakeholders
  • anticipate and advise on future technology changes that present opportunities for products or programmes
  • review requirements and specifications, define test conditions, identify issues and risks, and report on test activities
What You Need

To be a success in this role you\'ll have worked in complex data integration environments, and possess a detailed understanding of data platforms built within Microsoft Azure, including Azure Data Factory, Data Bricks and Data Lake. You should also have:
  • the ability to take responsibility for the design, coding, testing and documentation of data integrations and migrations
  • experience of planning, prioritising and communicating the work of a small team to balance long-term and immediate demands
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively
  • experience of working with a diverse team and stakeholders, and the skills to adapt your style of working as you form positive and effective working relationships
  • initiative, confidence and motivating team management skills
  • the ability to pass security clearance, backed by the right to work in the UK
About The Team

You\'ll be a key member of a small, technically focused team, and you\'ll quickly discover that one day is never the same as the next. This is a highly flexible, hybrid role with no operational requirements, so there are no set days on which you\'ll be required to be on site. Join us and you\'ll have a real opportunity to shape the technical expertise that is essential to maintaining a strong defence for the UK Parliament and the people who work here.
