We are a leading UK sofa manufacturer known for exceptional craftsmanship, innovative thinking and uncompromising quality. We are now seeking a Head of Design & Development to guide product development excellence.

About the Role

Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will play a central role in shaping our product strategy and ensuring every new collection reflects our commitment to comfort, craftsmanship, character and long-lasting quality.

You will lead and inspire the Design & Development team, ensuring concepts move seamlessly from initial idea to production-ready specification. Balancing creativity with commercial awareness and manufacturing efficiency will be key to your success.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the Design & Development team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability and high performance. Oversee the end-to-end design process, from concept research and prototyping to final sign-off for production. Collaborate closely with the Creative Director to bring brand vision to life. Work in partnership with the Commercial Director to ensure designs meet market demands, cost targets and commercial objectives. Ensure all designs consider manufacturing efficiencies, quality standards and supplier capabilities. Drive continuous improvement in materials, construction methods, sustainability and design processes. Maintain strong awareness of industry trends and material developments.

About You

A proven leader in furniture design or product development, within the upholstery sector. Deep understanding of sofa construction, materials, manufacturing processes and prototyping. Strong aesthetic sensibility paired with commercial and operational awareness. Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills. Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Passionate about craftsmanship, innovation and driving continuous improvement.
