Role Summary



The Head of Ecommerce will be fully responsible for our digital commerce strategy and performance. They will be responsible for driving the success of our online sales channel by blending commercial acumen, digital expertise, and customer first dedication. You will lead our ecommerce function end-to-end, from website performance, conversion optimisation, and customer experience, through to product merchandising, feed management, and digital trading.

You will work closely with our Marketing Director to ensure our acquisition strategies translate into profitable sales, and you'll partner with operations to make sure fulfilment and service exceed customer expectations. You will also own the ecommerce P&L, ensuring that revenue, profitability, and growth targets are met or exceeded.

You will be responsible for our tech/systems on site and your role will be to connect these systems into a seamless customer journey, optimise our digital shopfront, and keep us ahead of the competition through innovation, testing, and data-led decision-making.

Duties and Responsibilities (Include but not limited to)



Ecommerce Strategy & Leadership



Define and deliver Furniturebox's ecommerce strategy, aligned with overall business goals. Own the ecommerce P&L, ensuring revenue and profit targets are achieved. Lead, mentor, and grow the ecommerce team across trading, merchandising, UX/CRO, and digital performance. Build and maintain strong relationships with all internal and external teams

Website & Customer Experience



Oversee performance of the Furniturebox website, ensuring it delivers a seamless, engaging, and high-converting customer journey. Drive continuous improvements to UX, site design, navigation, and checkout experience. Ensure product presentation is accurate, compelling, and on-brand. Implement and optimise site personalisation, search, and recommendation tools to maximise sales. Ensure data integrity and compliance with UK regulations such as GDPR, PECR and Data Protection Act

Trading & Merchandising



Manage the online website product catalogue, ensuring pricing, promotions, and stock availability drive commercial performance. Collaborate with teams on seasonal campaigns, launches, and promotions in partnership with marketing. Ensure product feeds are optimised for paid channels Monitor margins and discount strategies to protect profitability

Digital Marketing & Traffic Acquisition



Work hand-in-hand with the Marketing Director to translate acquisition strategies into profitable ecommerce growth. Oversee execution of performance marketing channels (i.e. Google and Microsoft ads), ensuring campaigns deliver strong ROAS. Implement technical and product SEO on site, ensuring site health, speed, and category/product optimisation. Collaborate with marketing on content SEO, paid social strategy, and lifecycle campaigns by ensuring on site experience supports efforts such as landing pages.

Conversion Rate Optimisation & Analytics



Use platforms such as GA4, Looker Studio, Triple Whale, Conjura, Hotjar, and Microsoft Clarity to monitor performance and identify opportunities. Lead A/B testing, CRO initiatives, and data-driven improvements to boost conversion and AOV. Having a clear methodology and project management plan for a consistent and continuous strategy for CRO. Report on ecommerce KPIs, providing insights and forecasts to the leadership team.

Operations & Fulfilment Interface



Work closely with operations and cx to ensure smooth order processing, delivery, and returns. Maintain accurate inventory visibility online, avoiding overselling and maximising stock efficiency. Monitor and improve customer experience post-purchase in collaboration with the Customer Experience team.

Innovation & Growth



Stay ahead of ecommerce trends, competitor strategies, and emerging technologies. Evaluate and implement new tools that add significant gain to our consumer experience and top line revenue whilst balancing profitability Drive Furniturebox's expansion on site. Explore opportunities in personalisation and customer journey to deepen engagement.

Customer-Centric Growth



Develop a

customer-first approach

to our online experience, ensuring that customer feedback (reviews, surveys, NPS) feeds into decision-making. Collaborate with the Customer Service/Experience team to spot friction points and improve pre and post-purchase experiences. Ensure our website delivers on best in class customer experience

What do we need from you?



Essential



Proven experience in a senior ecommerce role (Head of Ecommerce, Ecommerce Manager, or similar) within a fast-paced retail or consumer goods environment Strong track record of driving online revenue growth, with ownership of ecommerce P&L Expertise in website management, CRO, and UX for ecommerce platforms with experience of setting up and running projects for each Deep understanding of digital performance marketing (Google Shopping, PPC, retargeting, paid social) and how to optimise for maximum ROAS Hands-on knowledge of SEO (technical, product/category optimisation) and content best practices Excellent analytical skills, with experience using GA4, Looker Studio, Hotjar, or similar tools to inform decision-making Experience with PIM, merchandising, and feed management systems Strong commercial acumen with ability to balance revenue growth, customer experience, and profitability Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire, coach, and grow high-performing teams Strong stakeholder management skills, able to collaborate across multiple teams such as marketing, operations, customer service, and finance. Excellent project management skills to fully scope, plan, manage, communicate, monitor and review key website projects Understanding of CRO methodologies (A/B testing, personalisation, customer journey mapping)

Desirable



Knowledge of marketplaces (e.g. Amazon, Wayfair) and omnichannel expansion Background in furniture, interiors, or lifestyle retail, with a passion for design and customer trends Strong knowledge of with GDPR, data privacy, and compliance in ecommerce Experience in scaling an ecommerce business in a high-growth environment Strong grasp of emerging ecommerce technologies (e.g. AI-driven personalisation, visual search etc) Experience/understanding in offline commerce (physical stores) Experience in ecommerce platform migration
