The Oversight Board makes binding and independent decisions about the most challenging content issues on Facebook and Instagram. Members of the Board include Helle Thorning-Schmidt, former Prime Minister of Denmark, Tawakkol Karman, Nobel Peace Prize winner, Michael McConnell, Director of Stanford's Constitutional Law Center, and many other diverse leaders and thinkers from around the world. The Board issued its first decisions in January 2021.



The Oversight Board Administration is the team of full-time staff who support Board Members in carrying out their duties. The Administration has a presence in London, San Francisco and Washington, D.C., and operates with a global scope.

The role





Joining the Oversight Board Administration is a chance to be part of an organisation which is leading on some of the most prominent and challenging issues facing the tech industry and society.



Reporting to the VP, Global Comms & Public Affairs, the

Head of Editorial, Digital and Content

will oversee the Oversight Board's editorial, digital and content team, responsible for driving the development of content, publications and communications that are essential for conveying the work of the Board.



A senior editorial specialist and comms lead, the postholder will have experience of writing about complex societal or tech issues. The postholder will produce content, publications and communications that effectively position the work of the Board among a complex network of stakeholders, including tech industry, policymakers, regulators, civil society organisations, journalists, academics, researchers and the public.





Responsibilities for this role will include, but are not limited to:



Oversee creation of content, publications and communications, embedded within the Board's communications and engagement team. Oversee copyediting and proofreading of the Board's decisions and case announcements and drafting of case summaries. Advance digital comms strategy, including social media, newsletters, video and website. Take responsibility for publications calendar, coordinating cross-functionally including with Content and Policy Team. Drive communications around impact of the Board's casework. Draft, structurally edit and manage complex approvals for blogs, papers, reports and messaging documents, under the umbrella of Thought Leadership. Produce messaging and positioning documents to support board members, trustees, and leadership group members as part of the Board's communications strategy. Oversee internal communications, including regular reports to leadership, and supporting cross-functional teams on major announcements. Manage internal editorial, digital and content team, as well as contractors and external agencies. Be the lead on advocating for clear writing across the organisation, including updating the House Style Guide. Fulfilling responsibilities of membership of the Communications Leadership team, contributing to discussions on communications strategy and tactics, ensuring the Comms Team is effective in delivering strategy and tactics, and supporting the Vice-President and Deputy Vice-President when needed.



Skills & Experience





Excellent spoken and written communication skills, with proven experience of translating complex issues into accurate and thoughtful content. Experience communicating complex issues, including those related to technology, society and human rights, particularly freedom of expression. Proven experience working with high-profile leaders on a variety of written content, especially thought leadership. Advanced editing skills, including structural editing, copyediting, accuracy and proofreading. Excellent attention to detail on matters of both style and substance. Demonstrable experience of leading teams to produce digital content and publications. Ability to operate in a fast-paced organization, managing competing projects, priorities and internal stakeholders simultaneously. Confident with CMS and managing websites, including troubleshooting. Track record in Comms leadership role, comfortable contributing to crisis comms and to planning on broader Comms activities and tactics. A deep understanding and enthusiasm for the role of the Oversight Board in the evolving tech, AI, regulatory and content moderation landscape.
