Job Description

We're looking for a Head of Employee and Volunteer Relations to join us to lead our People Relations team.




You'll be our employment and volunteer legislation and best practice expert, providing practical and strategic advice to ensure legislative compliance and managing our level of risk. Communication, negotiating and strong relationship building skills will be essential as you'll be our key contact with our union Prospect. The nature of your work will be highly confidential and involve negotiating and consulting on changes to National Trust people policies and terms of conditions of employment as well as being the lead for several contracts with external suppliers for key services such as Occupational Health.




Internally you'll be known as Head of People Relations.




Salary: 67,000




This is a full-time, permanent opportunity.



What it's like to work here:This is an exciting time following the launch of the National Trust Strategy 'People and Nature Thriving'. This role has a significant impact across the National Trust in providing practical and strategic advice to the wider People Team and direct to leadership in support of the People Strategy. Reporting to our People Services Director, you'll lead a team of 5 People Relations Experts.




Your contractual location will be our head office (Heelis) in Swindon and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You'll be required to work at Heelis for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.



What you'll be doing:In this highly autonomous role you'll develop our people policies and advise on legislative matters organisation wide at a senior level, this can involve advising on confidential and sensitive matters. You'll be a problem solver with a focus on delivery and can explain complex terms and issues simply and succinctly both internally and externally. You'll work with external suppliers for our key services including Occupational Health and ensure all services and delivered effectively and to agreed quality standards.



Who we're looking forWe'd love to hear from you if you (have):


previous experience working in a leadership Employee Relations role in a large and geographically dispersed, unionised environment where you challenged, influenced, negotiated and advised on Employee Relations matters deep and broad knowledge of HR Best Practice employment/volunteering law knowledge that you can apply at a senior level thorough and up to date knowledge of case law, employment and volunteer legislation with the ability to convert it into best practice working policies are a Chartered member of CIPD ability to influence at a senior level (Executive and Senior leadership teams) strategic mindset, understanding broader organisational issues proven ability to build effective and collaborative relationships are delivery focussed
