A leading London law firm is seeking an experienced and commercially astute Head of Finance to oversee its finance function and play a key role in the firm's strategic development. Reporting directly to the Senior Partner, this is a hands-on leadership position offering autonomy, influence, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a dynamic professional services environment.
As part of the management team, you will lead and develop the firm's finance department, ensuring best-in-class financial management and regulatory compliance. You'll be responsible for producing management reports, budgets, forecasts, and cashflows, while advising partners on all key financial matters affecting the business.
You will drive continuous improvement in systems, controls, and processes to support the firm's growth, ensuring financial operations remain robust, efficient, and compliant.
Responsibilities include:
Oversee all aspects of financial management, planning, and reporting.
Ensure compliance with SRA Accounts Rules and other financial regulations.
Lead the development and delivery of financial strategy across the business.
Provide financial analysis and insight to support decision-making and performance improvement.
Manage annual audits and liaise with external auditors.
Oversee cash flow, treasury, and client account management across multiple entities.
Develop and implement process improvements and automation initiatives.
Monitor budgets and provide strategic input on cost control and profitability.
What we need from you:
Previous experience in a law firm or professional services environment is highly advantageous.
In-depth knowledge of SRA Accounts Rules and financial compliance.
Proven experience in managing finance teams and developing systems and controls.
Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
Ability to work both strategically and operationally with a high level of attention to detail.
Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
You will be a confident and dynamic finance professional with the ability to influence at partner level and lead a high-performing team. Commercially aware and technically strong, you combine strategic vision with a practical, hands-on approach. You'll be passionate about driving efficiency, improving processes, and supporting the firm's continued success.
