This expanding city centre based environmental consultancy is seeking ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified Head of Finance to lead its finance team.

Hybrid & flexible working, Manchester city centre.

The Role

Closely supporting and reporting to the Financial Director, this hands-on role will be responsible for overseeing the day to day financial control operations of the business; preparing the management accounts, budgets and forecasts and general financial reporting for the business for a multi-company set up. This role will have 4/5 direct reports.

This individual should have the ability to drive positive change within the Finance team through effective problem-solving and efficiencies. Excellent communication skills are key, and you will be able to effectively liaise with a variety of key stakeholder across the company.

The ideal candidate will be analytical, innovative and commercially aware, constantly striving to identify opportunities for improvements and efficiencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and developing the Finance team, with a focus on people development and talent management
  • Responsible for the strategic planning processes and forecasting/budgeting cycles
  • Partner with the Head of FP&A to ensure all sales, margin and product requirements are included and robustly reviewed/challenged
  • Oversee the period-end and year-end close activities
  • Manage, develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Partner the Leadership Team / Senior Management Team and other key stakeholders to proactively drive a cost-conscious approach to spending in the business
  • Responsibility for the timely and accurate completion of the monthly and weekly business performance reports including rolling forecasts and variance reporting
  • A strong cashflow focus (maintain 18 month rolling operational forecast)
  • Responsibility for the maintenance of the standard costing system, to ensure they are up to date and accurate.
  • Provide ad-hoc analysis to support business decisions
  • Support the company in all financial matters, contributing to maximising profitability
Skills & Experience
  • Fully qualified Accountant (ACA/ CIMA or ACCA)
  • Experience managing a small team within a professional services environment
  • Exceptional levels of technical accounting knowledge
  • Experience of leading and developing teams
  • Ability to manage external stakeholders
  • Expert communicator with well-developed skills in literacy, building rapport,
  • Proactive in approach, prepared to challenge the status quo
  • XERO experience advantageous but not essential
