Due to this growth, we are recruiting a Head of Finance to take full responsibility for the financial management of the business and to build a finance function capable of supporting continued expansion.

The Role

The Head of Finance will own all financial aspects of the business. This is a senior, trusted role that reports directly into senior leadership, including the CEO. You will be expected to provide clear, accurate financial insight and to communicate confidently at a senior level.

You will initially manage one direct report (the Credit Controller/Bookkeeper). As the business grows, you will be responsible for recruiting and leading additional members of the finance team.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical competence alongside sound judgement, clear communication, and a practical approach to problem-solving. Experience with

Xero

is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Ownership

Take full responsibility for the company's finance function, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and control across all financial activity. Ensure the business is fully compliant with all relevant financial, tax, and regulatory requirements.

Senior Stakeholder Communication

Report directly to senior management, including the CEO. Present financial information clearly and concisely to non-finance stakeholders. Support strategic discussions with accurate financial data, forecasts, and analysis.

Accounting & Reporting

Oversee all accounting activity using Xero. Produce monthly management accounts, cashflow forecasts, and financial reporting. Manage month-end and year-end processes, working with external accountants as required.

VAT, Payroll & Compliance

Oversee VAT preparation and submissions. Manage payroll processes and ensure ongoing compliance with HMRC requirements. Act as the main point of contact for HMRC, auditors, and external advisors.

Credit Control & Revenue Management

Oversee credit control, billing, and direct debit processes. Support resolution of complex or sensitive client payment issues. Ensure strong cash flow management and timely revenue collection.

Team Leadership

Line manage the Credit Controller/Bookkeeper, getting involved where necessary to ensure everything is in line with company expectations. Recruit, onboard, and manage additional finance team members as the business scales. Maintain clear standards and accountability within the finance function.

Procurement & Cost Control

Oversee procurement and supplier relationships. Monitor expenditure and identify opportunities for sensible cost control.

Process & Systems

Review and improve finance processes to ensure they remain appropriate as the business grows and enters new markets.
Requirements

Proven experience in a senior finance role such as Head of Finance, Finance Manager, or Financial Controller. Strong hands-on experience using

Xero

. Solid understanding of UK accounting, VAT, payroll, and compliance. Experience managing finance staff. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to hold senior-level conversations. Confident presenting financial information to senior leadership. Organised, detail-focused, and comfortable taking full ownership of the finance function. Experience in SaaS, subscription-based businesses, or the legal sector would be an advantage.

Working Hours and Salary

First two weeks: 09:00 - 18:00 Monday to Thursday, 09:00 - 16:00 on Fridays. After two weeks: Flexible start time between 07:30 - 09:30.
You will work 8 hours Monday to Thursday and 6 hours on Fridays, with a choice of a 30-minute or one-hour lunch.

Salary: 55,000 - 60,000 per year, depending on experience. This is an office-based role.
