Overview


The Head of Grounds manages and undertakes the upkeep of grounds, gardens and outdoor sports facilities at Boundary Oak. This role is part of the maintenance and grounds team managing the upkeep of the school site and the team works collaboratively wherever necessary. The Head of Grounds will be able to call on the Maintenance & Grounds Assistant for assistance.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities



Maintain and care for the school's sports grounds - tennis/netball courts, astroturf, football, cricket, hockey and other sports areas, including:

Regular mowing of the sports pitches when necessary during the year.

Clearing debris and removing weeds.

Liaising with the Director of Sport regarding sport requirements.

Marking out all pitches and sports areas, including line marking and other markers as necessary.

Maintaining the cricket square to an acceptable standard including rolling, cutting, scarifying, moss and weed killing before, during and after the cricket season.

Operating machinery such as tractor, lawn mower etc.

Installing and removing weatherproof covers (cricket, long jump pitch etc)

Installing and removing tennis nets, netball posts, and goals as required.

Cordoning areas off for cross country etc. to include setting up car parks during events on grass areas.

Brushing astroturf at least twice weekly to maintain the surface

Sweeping leaves in the winter from communal areas.

Ensuring proper maintenance of sports ground equipment such as nets, goals and posts.

Management of Grounds Assistant.

Work closely with the Head of Marketing and Admissions to maintain and enhance visual appeal of the school site, ensuring all outdoor spaces always reflect the school's values and standards.

Participate in regular site walks with the Head of Marketing and Admissions to identify areas for improvement.

Maintain and care for the general school's grounds, including:

Weeding, edging borders, maintaining beds etc.

Using hand tools such as rakes and spades, and applying fertilisers and weed killers etc.

Mowing all grass and lawns and strimming as necessary.

Maintaining playground surfaces to ensure safety and longevity.

Pruning, tree cutting, removal of loose branches etc.

Undertaking grounds maintenance work as may be required.

Cleaning and painting outdoor playground equipment and seating/tables as necessary

Maintain vehicles, plant equipment and machinery in accordance to "Safety at Work" requirements and Manufacturer's recommendations ensuring all machinery is in a safe condition for normal use, including ensuring clean and presentable equipment in good working order.

Miscellaneous duties:

To be available for emergency call-outs, as required, for the grounds i.e. snow or wind damage.

Salting pathways etc. when necessary during winter months.

Moving furniture, staging, chairs, tables etc. when required via consultation with the Head of Estates.

To work together with the maintenance team as necessary to assist with the general interior and exterior maintenance work to the school buildings. Complying with all other reasonable requests from management.

Person Specification



Essential:

Some experience in maintenance, trades or grounds/gardens. Be able to demonstrate a positive attitude to work and able to work on his/her own initiative. Be able to prioritise workload and to meet calendar deadlines for sporting events. Contribute ideas, implement landscaping projects, renovation, improvements. Reliable and flexible to the needs of the School.
Desirable:

At least 1 years' experience in the maintenance of sports grounds. At least 2 years' general experience in the maintenance of grounds & gardens.

Hours of Work



40 hours per week, normally Monday to Friday.

Within reason, you will be expected to work such hours as may be necessary for the efficient carrying out of your duties. In particular you may be required to be present at the weekend if school functions are taking place such as Open Morning, Sports Day & other events.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: 27,500.00-29,000.00 per year
