Job Description

As the senior competent person in Health & Safety, you will:

• Lead the development and implementation of robust H&S and Fire Management strategies.
• Ensure compliance with statutory legislation including HSE, Fire Safety Order 2005, and NHS guidance.
• Drive ISO 14001 accreditation and embed quality management systems.
• Provide expert advice and leadership across the Trust, influencing culture and operational delivery.
• Liaise with external bodies including HSE, NHS England, and Fire Services.
• Manage a team of Health & Safety Advisors and Manual Handling specialists.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic oversight of H&S and Fire compliance across all sites.
• Lead audits, inspections, training, and risk assessments.
• Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and reporting frameworks.
• Present reports and recommendations to senior leadership and Trust boards.
• Champion continuous improvement and root cause analysis.
• Manage incident investigations and ensure timely RIDDOR reporting., * You must be a car driver with flexibility for site visits.
• The role includes budget responsibility for dedicated H&S projects and equipment.
• Degree-level education and Chartered IOSH membership. * NEBOSH Diploma (including Fire and Environmental Awareness). * Proven experience in NHS Fire Safety and achieving ISO 14001 accreditation. * Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills. * Ability to analyse complex data and present findings at board level. * Experience in managing teams and driving cultural change.
