About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Head of Health, Safety and Fire Safety to lead on the strategic and operational delivery of all aspects of safety across all airport operations, including third-party operators, ensuring robust systems and standards are in place to deliver a high standard of safety in all airport activities. The postholder will ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulatory frameworks and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) requirements to ensure excellence in both occupational and airside safety practices.
They oversee all aspects of Health Safety & Fire safety, including Aerodrome Safety
Manage and develop a team of safety professionals, fostering a high-performance and collaborative environment.
Financial oversight and asset renewal planning
Training, competence, and performance management
Regulatory compliance and operational readiness
In the event of a major incident, the Head of Health Safety & Fire Safety provides strategic leadership and subject matter expertise to the Incident Management Team.
The successful Candidate:
We're looking for a dynamic and experienced leader to head all aspects of safety at the airport. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Health & Safety along with Fire Safety and aerodrome safety and a proven ability to develop and implement long-term strategic workforce plans.
You'll bring excellent forward planning and analytical skills, using data to inform and support key operational decisions. Your communication and influencing abilities will be second to none, enabling you to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels--from front-line colleagues to senior directors.
We're seeking someone who is highly self-motivated, creative, and proactive, with the ability to organise and coordinate teams to deliver shared objectives. Experience working within an airport environment--or a similarly complex operational or emergency services setting--is essential.
For this role you must also hold the below:
NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health and Safety.
Fire Safety Management qualification (e.g., Fire Risk Assessment Certification).
Lead Auditor qualification (ISO 45001 and/or ISO 9001 desirable).
Leadership qualification at Level 5 or above (e.g., ILM, CMI, or equivalent).
Formal Accident and Incident Investigation training (e.g., TapRooT, TOPSET, or equivalent).
Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) or equivalent.
