Job summary
The People team sits within Corporate Services and includes the following specialist functions: Human Resources , Equality , Diversity and Inclusion Learning and Organisational Development and Health, Safety and Wellbeing. Since Forestry and Land Scotland formed in 2019, our People Team has been developing new ways of providing professional and practical HR support to Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) and our sister agency Scottish Forestry (SF). Our People Team combines HR expertise on the full range of strategic, operational and transactional HR matters. We have a highly committed team and an established business partnering model in place providing relevant services to our regions and directorates.
Job description
As Head of HR you will be responsible for the continuous development and improvement of an effective and relevant HR capability for FLS and SF. We are looking for a qualified individual who has operated in a similar post and can work on their own initiative, is proactive, resilient and committed to doing an excellent job. The successful candidate will join the team as we continue on a journey of transformation across the entire agency and be experienced in workforce planning with an in-depth knowledge of employment law.

Reporting directly to the Head of People you will have four senior direct reports and be responsible for the following teams: ER , Reward and Policy; HR Business partners and advisors; Resourcing and Talent Management, People Services which encompasses Payroll, HR Systems, MI Analysis and HR Administration.
Working in close partnerships with the relevant trade unions and key stakeholders across the organisation, you will ensure the people function provides professional HR consultancy expertise and high quality HR operational support to enable the organisation to operate to its full potential. You will be adept at researching and compiling reports and papers for the Executive Leadership Team on HR related matters.
You'll ensure that day to day HR service provision is progressive, efficient and customer focused for both FLS and elements of Scottish Forestry which are covered by a service level agreement.

Experience
Essential:
Demonstrable experience of working successfully in a senior, strategic HR role within a unionised environment at, or close to, Board level
Significant experience of leading and managing large HR delivery teams
Extensive Change management experience
Demonstrable evidence of building a working environment with high levels of engagement and performance with the ability to hold others and self to account
Experience of identifying, implementing and embedding process improvements, encouraging others to re-think ways of doing things, as you continually strive for improvement and excellence
Experience of operating, influencing, negotiating and delivering at strategic level
Experience providing professional advice and guidance to Directors and senior managers on a wide range of strategic and operational HR Issues
Expert knowledge of Employment Law
Experience using HR IT systems , influencing and embedding high levels of engagement .
Budget management
Reward and Pay negotiation experience
Desirable:
iTrent or similar HR IT system knowledge
Understanding of project management methodology
Technical
Essential:
CIPD qualified to MCIPD level
Degree or equivalent experience within a related HR discipline
