The role

We are looking for an experienced and tenacious Head of Media & PR to lead our talented Media & PR Team at the University of Bristol.

If you have extensive experience in media relations and want to work somewhere fast-paced and interesting, then this is the role for you.

You will be driven, organised and creative, calm in a crisis and confident to provide direction and leadership to senior stakeholders across the University on media, PR and communications.

You\'ll be experienced in handling challenging media issues, possess robust project management skills and demonstrate expertise in developing and managing content for a range of outlets and channels.

Please be aware that this role is a maternity cover position, scheduled until December 2024 or until the post holder\'s earlier return.

What will you be doing?

  • You will pro-actively manage both the day-to-day work and overall performance of the team, including out-of-hours cover
  • You will ensure the team is on the pulse of what\'s happening across the University, able to identify interesting and compelling stories which will grab media attention and promote the organisation across the world
  • You will provide confident advice and leadership when handling challenging media issues, drawing on your extensive experience of working with the media and planning ahead where possible
You should apply if
  • You have significant proven experience of working in a senior media relations role, including crisis communications
  • You have significant proven experience of managing teams working at pace and across a range of subjects
  • You are a confident presenter and speaker, with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • You have experience of developing relationships with key journalists, including international media, to deliver impactful coverage
  • You thrive working under pressure, juggling multiple priorities and are able to adapt quickly to changing situations
