The Times and The Sunday Times are looking for a head of newsletters to focus on developing newsletter strategy that embraces both retaining and growing subscriptions.
You will report to the head of head of audience and work closely with the head of CRM and retention in the marketing team to straddle both retention and acquisition goals.
You will manage the newsletter team and be a key ambassador for audience-led thinking in the newsroom, ensuring our newsletters engage our existing subscriber base and find new audiences.
You will be expected to share insights with the wider audience development team and to key stakeholders on a regular basis.
The key responsibilities in this role will be:
Grow quality audiences for each of our newsletters, including testing new pathways to growth and ensuring the existing reader journeys are effective
Enhancing subscriber retention through newsletters
Audience development for newsletters including subscribers, non-subscribers, registered users and household members
Support the high-quality production of daily and weekly newsletters
Optimise newsletter product experience regarding including readability, preference changes such as the unsubscribe journey, deeplinking through to the app, and accessibility
Manage and develop the newsletter team
Accountability for business-wide goals (growth, retention)
Improve workflows to maximise efficiency and quality
Communicate strategies to stakeholders and the newsroom
Maintain compliance and audience-list hygiene
Work with our customer marketing team to align with CRM activity
The right candidate is someone who:
Has experience in pioneering newsletter strategies for both subscribers and non-subscribers
Has strong data literacy and critical-thinking skills
Can effectively manage and inspire a small and productive team, and can influence the wider newsroom
Is comfortable with accountability to business goals
Has experience working with departments outside of editorial such as commercial and customer marketing
