An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of Numeracy to join our Mathematics department at Weston


Secondary School, part of Hamwic Education Trust (HET). This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated


educator to take the lead in designing and implementing a whole-school numeracy strategy, ensuring that all


students develop the mathematical confidence and skills they need to succeed.




The Mathematics department delivers a broad and engaging curriculum, covering key areas such as algebra,


geometry, statistics, and problem-solving. Weston Secondary School is seeking to recruit a passionate and


dedicated Maths teacher to support the continued success of this vital subject.




HET is a large, fast-paced Trust with currently 37 academies across the South Coast. to 6 community-

based partnerships, there are 34 primary academies, 2 secondary and 1 hospital school.

Lead the development and implementation of a school-wide numeracy strategy. Work collaboratively with all departments to integrate numeracy into their subject areas. Provide training and support for teachers to enhance numeracy teaching across the curriculum. Promote a positive culture of numeracy, engaging both students and staff through innovative initiatives and events.


Develop targeted interventions to support students with numeracy difficulties. Liaise with parents, governors, and external organisations to enhance numeracy provision.

Your role



o To assist the Director of Maths and Science in leading and developing whole school numeracy, fostering a


love of maths by improving the quality of provision and ensuring positive outcomes for our students. This will


involve setting high expectations to ensure the continued delivery of high-quality teaching and learning and


high achievement of all students.

Key Responsibilities



o To ensure that all students rapidly improve their numeracy levels across the whole school.


To lead on numeracy development across all phases of the school, rapidly improving our numeracy provision
and outcomes for students:


Developing a numeracy curriculum vision including non-negotiables of delivery in every curriculum area which is planned into discrete subject areas and mapped accordingly.


Lead a waved bespoke intervention package of numeracy catch up across all phases. Ensure that all aspects of numeracy are accurately assessed and data is used diagnostically to improve outcomes for students.


Work with teachers to ensure they are tracking numeracy progress on a regular basis and it is used to inform planning and interventions.


Ensure Numeracy data is reported on a regular basis to Senior Leaders and Governors and lead on any external assessments.


Lead on reporting to Parents around numeracy progress. Work closely with the Teaching and Learning Lead to devise and deliver appropriate staff CPD to support Numeracy development.


Work closely with the Curriculum Lead to map and sequence the numeracy curriculum; ensuring that there is consistency of approach to numeracy across the school to support students.


Provide support to staff regarding teaching and learning, resources, and planning for numeracy. Monitor teaching and learning by visiting lessons, scrutinising books, and talking with students to assess how well numeracy is being implemented and how well it is delivered across the school.


Provide feedback to staff based on the above observations to identify training needs and provide continuing professional development (CPD) in numeracy.


Coach and model team teaching. Support teachers to make accurate assessments, manage internal and external moderation, and complete external moderation exercises.


Contribute to timetabling and manage setting students into attainment groups. Plan, prepare and present lessons in accordance with WSS Guidelines Teach, according to the educational needs of all students Mark and record assessments completed by students, ensuring all underperforming work is challenged in line with school guidance


Set and mark homework for KS3 & KS4 on a regular basis in accordance with school policy Assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of students by using appropriate baseline data


Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use this assessment to improve aspects of teaching


To hold and articulate clear values and moral purpose, focused on providing an excellent education for students in maths.


To demonstrate optimistic personal behaviour, positive relationships and attitudes towards students, staff, parents and members of the local community.


To sustain wide, current knowledge and understanding of maths teaching, and pursue continuous professional development.


Promote students' spiritual, moral, social, cultural, physical and mental development alongside British values in the teaching of maths







Promote careers education through maths and ensure that teaching and learning illustrates how maths
might lead to career opportunities



Responsibilities of all school staff

outcomes are met;


regularly review your own practice and set personal targets in consultation with your line manager; take responsibility for, seek out and engage fully with CPD in order to support your development as a practitioner (all WSS staff have access to the full suite of training available from The National College);


maintain accurate and up-to- professional development records on your Bromcom file; develop effective working relationships and network with local, national and digital agencies to ensure that you are at the forefront of developments within your field of expertise;


disseminate best practice further to CPD opportunities made available to you.
