To provide nursing and clinical leadership to specified wards and community teams within the Care Unit, and to work with the wider senior nurse group within the Care Group. You will define the professional models to be used within the care unit, and with support of a matron and physical healthcare team provide a service based in best practice, that provides the very best care to our patients. The Head of Nursing carries a lead role within the care unit, and provides nursing advice, leadership, and professional challenge to the Care Unit Management Team.
The Head of Nursing is a key member of the senior care unit clinical team. Working closely with the Matrons, Ward Managers and Physical Health team members, the wider Clinical teams, the Heads of Service, and the wider organisation, the Head of Nursing will play a main role in driving forward the professional nursing agenda in inpatient and community services. This will include safer staffing, professional standards, developing systems and monitoring dashboards to drive quality improvement and contribute to the development of the strategic direction of clinical services.
Primarily the Head of Nursing for each care unit will take overall responsibility and accountability for the standards of care delivered by the nursing workforce. They will do so by providing professional nursing leadership and guidance, inspiring Matrons and the ward mangers, clinical governance and Physical health leads; to build a cohesive, mutually supportive team across the in-patient units and community teams.
They will model high professional standards and lead by example, lead and promote a culture of learning, where learning is shared across the units and the wider Trust, and successes are celebrated, and create an environment on our inpatient units where excellence in clinical care will flourish in relation to the key dimensions of health care quality.
