You will lead the Owner's Engineering (OE) business line, helping to establish OWC as the trusted advisor of choice for OE across Onshore Renewables (OR) technologies such as onshore wind, solar and energy storage. In this role, you will drive the strategic growth of the segment while providing oversight and direction to project teams, ensuring seamless integration of expertise and collaboration across the OWC's global operations.
What will you be doing?
Lead the Owner's Engineering service line globally, including feasibility, design, procurement, financial and legal close, construction management / site supervision, commissioning and acceptance for Onshore Renewables projects.
Develop and execute a global strategy for Owner's Engineering with a focus on business development, delivery models, and development of partnerships.
Ensure that all Owner's Engineering work and technical quality standards are clear, maintained, consistent and ensure fluid operations across offices, countries, and technologies.
Lead on large Owner's Engineering projects acting as or appointing a suitable Project Director to manage delivery teams.
Develop and maintain the Owner's Engineering approvals process, approving as appropriate and managing the quality of the global Owner's Engineering product.
Develop global and regional capability by collaborating with Onshore Renewables heads of technology and geographies to ensure they are aligned.
Liaise with the Head of Owner's Engineering (Offshore) to ensure alignment in approach and carry out joint activities where appropriate.
Develop and maintain databases, templates, tools and own required software.
Support the Independent Engineering service line on contract negotiation and project learnings and associated skillsets.
Represent Onshore Renewables and Owner's Engineering at conferences and public engagements and coordinate business development for global lenders.
Drive service offering expansion as appropriate including new associated service lines.
Appoint and oversee specialists on technology (mounting structure, turbine, etc.) and appoint and oversee people to ensure knowledge repositories are maintained.
Own the Owner's Engineering training plans, reporting, proposals, costing, templates and tools.
Collaborate and network with teams across ABL Group and external bodies, acting as an ambassador for Owner's Engineering and OWC at industry events.
What are we looking for?
Ideally, you will come from either a consultancy or construction background and possess a proven track record of leading Owner's Engineering projects and initiatives in the onshore renewables sector. More specifically, we're looking for the following:
Educated to degree level in a related engineering discipline. Project management qualifications are beneficial.
10 + years' experience working in the renewables sector, particularly in consulting.
A proven track record of managing Owner's Engineering projects from inception to completion.
Knowledge of legal affairs such as grid connection, land rights, permitting and authorisations.
A successful track record of managing, coaching and leading multi-disciplinary teams.
An understanding of procurement (contract strategy and structuring, RFPs, etc), contract negotiation (FIDIC, NEC, etc) and contract management.
Knowledge of the financial structuring of projects.
Experience in engaging with legal, financial and lender's technical advisors, assisting clients to reach financial and legal close on projects and carrying out detailed design or detailed design reviews.
