Purpose Of Role:




Reporting to the Chief Delivery Officer, the Head of Power Connections is a critical role accountable for leading the e2e connections, metering and tariff programme to deliver Connected Kerb's investment strategy and the rollout of new and adopted sockets to deliver our investment strategy.


The role encompasses end-to-end (E2E) management of power connections -- from initiating the Point of Connection (POC) and optimising connection commercials and delivery strategies with Independent Connection Providers (ICPs) and Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs), to implementing appropriate supplier tariff costs. Responsibilities include managing ICP designs and approvals, overseeing project delivery, and coordinating the metering programme for approximately 1,500 connections per annum across the UK, valued at around 14 million. The role also involves receipting approximately 8 million in asset value from IDNOs and selecting suitable energy tariffs.


You will be responsible for developing relationships across the UK's Distribution Network Operator (DNO), Distribution Service Operators (DSO) and Connected Kerb's IDNO ICPs. You will provide advice to the board on how to drive value for money and deliver Connected Kerb's Connections programme.

Requirements



Key Accountabilities:



Set and execute the ICP/DNO/IDNO strategy for the optimal cost and delivery for all connections within the 45-day Install to Commission SLA and receipt of AV. Lead Health, Safety & Environment across all aspects of connections works. This includes assurance of CDM and all connection related activities and embedding Connected Kerb's Zero Harm approach. Build strong working relationships with DNOs, DSOs, ICPs, IDNOs, Energy suppliers and Ofgem. Anticipate risks such as grid availability, curtailment, or reinforcement delays. Keep ahead of Energy and EV policy changes, code modifications, and emerging opportunities. Oversee the e2e connections from POC quotation through design approval to practical completion. Manage ICPs to provide key documentation to CK's IDNO to secure the Asset Valuation. Co-ordination and selection of the right tariff with energy suppliers for all commissioned sites. Provide connections to the delivery teams that meet the target cost per socket required. Provide the site selection team with key information required to optimise connections costs. Review quality of the connections works in accordance with NERS regulations, Connected Kerb's Engineering Standards, Installation Guidelines and signing off the Practical Completion with 'As Builts' and NRSWA audits using Connected Kerb's 'Quality 3 Lines of Defence'. Manage all risks across the Programme to identify, categorise, assess, and mitigate risks to delivery and communicate relevant issues to the PMO and Senior Delivery Managers where appropriate. Management of Connected Kerb's ICP contracts and the production of the Service Order to ensure contractual coverage for scope, schedule and cost along with active Change Control when required. Provide accurate and timely reporting of programme delivery progress, costs, risks and issues to the PMO, SDMs and the clients (where required) on a weekly basis. Ensure data quality for the provision of MPAN, client information and tariffs in line with energy supplier requirements. Promote true collaboration between Connected Kerb and our ICPs through regular dialogue, monthly SRMs to discuss collective performance against Connected Kerb's 5 CPIs (Safety, Delivery, Quality, Cost & Reputation). Leadership and continual development for the wider connections team with clear objectives/ defined delivery targets to ensure development of a high performing team. Promote Connected Kerb's core behaviours: Accountability; Building Strong Team Play; and Continuous Improvement. Establish external and internal benchmarks and appropriate KPIs as the basis for demonstrating performance.

Energy Markets

Understanding of the UK energy markets, OFGEM and electrical system Strong relationships with key industry players, ICPs, DNOs & IDNOs Experience in working with ESOs and setting tariffs

Connections

Set and deliver the IDNO and ICP strategy to optimise the CK investment case Manage Connection Projects: Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of electricity connection projects for new EV charging stations. Coordinate with Utilities: Liaise with utility companies to secure grid connections, negotiate terms, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Cost Management: Monitor and manage budgets for electricity connection projects, ensuring cost-effectiveness and efficiency.

Metering Management

Meter Installation and Maintenance: Oversee the installation, and maintenance of metering equipment at EV charging sites. Data Accuracy: Ensure the accuracy and reliability of metering data for billing and reporting purposes. Compliance: Ensure all metering equipment and processes comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Team Leadership

Supervise Teams: Lead and supervise ICPs involved in connection and metering projects. Training and Development: Provide training and development opportunities to team members to enhance their skills and knowledge. Performance Management: Set performance goals, conduct regular reviews, and implement improvement plans as needed.

Stakeholder Management

Client Interaction: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding electricity connections and metering issues. ICP, DNO & IDNO: Ability to build strong relationships across the electrical ecosystem Vendor Management: Manage relationships with the connections supply chain to ensure quality and timely delivery of services.

Reporting and Documentation

Progress Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on project status, budget, and performance metrics to senior management. Documentation: Maintain detailed records of all connection and metering projects, including technical specifications, permits, and correspondence

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Deep knowledge of power industry, electricity connections and metering Proven track record of delivering infrastructure projects, ideally in energy or network infrastructure Experience in infrastructure Health, Safety, Environment & Quality, including CDM Track record of successfully managing ICP projects to time, quality and budget Commercially experienced in developing and delivering connections strategies Performance & Contract management of ICPs delivery Understanding of a solutions-oriented individual, proactive in providing pragmatic advice and innovative delivery Experience in managing P&L budgets PMO/programme scheduling experience An ability to prepare and interpret flowcharts, schedules and step-by-step action plans Familiarity with risk management and quality assurance control Hands-on experience with project management tools e.g. MSP, Site Tacker APMP/PRINCE2 certification is a plus Must be eligible to work in the UK
