About your role:
We're looking for a self-starting and strategic Head of Public Affairs to help lead the charge in strengthening Centrica's public profile, shaping policy outcomes, and building trusted relationships with government and political stakeholders. As a senior leader in our Public Affairs team, you'll play a critical role in guiding our approach to public affairs - advising senior leaders and deputising for the Public Affairs Director.
This is a high-impact role for someone with a deep understanding of the political landscape, outstanding communication and influencing skills, and the ability to develop and execute strategies that advance both our business objectives and reputation at the highest levels.
What will you be doing?
Develop and deliver Public Affairs strategies & activity across Westminster, UK regions and (Europe as appropriate), positioning Centrica as the UK's leading energy services company.
Build trusted relationships with senior political stakeholders--including Ministers, Mayors and Parliamentarians to ensure Centrica's priorities are well understood and that key policy outcomes support our commercial goals.
Proactively identify and respond to political developments, shaping and implementing lobbying strategies that mitigate risks and maximise opportunities for the business.
Collaborate closely with the strategic communications colleagues to ensure all Public Affairs activities are fully aligned, integrated and delivering against Centrica's strategic and business priorities.
Represent Centrica on the political stage in the UK, building trust and reputation among political stakeholders, to advance our interests and protect shareholder value.
Lead short- and medium-term policy engagement efforts with influential stakeholders such as think tanks, campaigning groups, industry associations, and consumer organisations.
Represent Centrica on relevant public policy consultations in close collaboration with policy and regulatory teams.
Here's what we're looking for:
Deep knowledge of UK political institutions, policymaking processes, and political risk--plus experience navigating complex political environments across multiple geographies.
Extensive networks and trusted relationships amongst political and parliamentary stakeholders.
Proven ability to develop and deliver strategic, creative public affairs and advocacy campaigns that deliver real impact.
A strong track record advising senior leaders, with judgment to influence at the highest level.
Commercial acumen with the ability to align public affairs strategy with long-term business goals, including legislative and regulatory change.
Excellent stakeholder management skills, with a collaborative mindset and the ability to build effective relationships internally and externally.
Skilled at monitoring current affairs and emerging trends, identifying risks and opportunities, and engaging the wider business accordingly.
Strong communicator and influencer, able to harness internal and external networks to deliver positive outcomes for Centrica.
Team player--aligning with media, digital, reputation, internal comms, and responsible business teams.
Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, capable of distilling complex policy and political issues into actionable counsel.
Digitally savvy, resilient, and agile--comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment with constant political and media attention.
Solid understanding of the energy and services sector, including the corporate, consumer, and trade union landscapes in which we operate.
