The Head of Public Markets Platform is a critical position, leading the technology estate used by the Equities, Fixed Income and Multi-Asset teams. The role holder will shape and deliver a platform strategy which underpins M&G's objectives - with a relentless focus on unlocking operational efficiency, continually driving improvements to both client and colleague experience, and regularly driving platform modernisation and simplification.
The role involves acting as technology partner to the Investment, Research, Risk, Dealing & Sustainability teams to understand requirements, challenges and opportunities, and shapes innovative solutions to achieve these. In addition, the role holder is responsible for ensuring the platform meets all regulatory and control environment obligations. The role holder leads a team with a mix of direct and matrix management, across the UK and India, with M&G employees and third party vendors.
Key responsibilities for this role:

  • Set direction and lead on platform strategy, creating a clear business and architectural vision. Ensure communication and alignment of objectives and plans across the organisation to facilitate successful delivery.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across the investment and technology teams, to influence and advise on options.
  • Own the production of and delivery against the strategic, annual and quarterly plan, and ensuring demand is prioritised to meet business objectives.
  • Champion the use of Blackrock's Aladdin platform, utilising an Aladdin-first ethos to drive colleague adoption.
  • Meet the delivery requirements from multiple stakeholders, coordinating, consolidating and prioritising demand and managing dependencies
  • To lead a team who are responsible for safely developing and deploying technology changes to the relevant platform based on defined business requirements.
  • Optimising the platform. This may involve leading the team to resolve risks, vulnerabilities, address root causes to recurring incidents and to modernise the application estate to ensure it delivers frictionless colleague experience and meets control and service level obligations.
  • Creating an environment for the Public Markets Platform team to be successful, ensuring colleagues and stakeholders understand the value and impact of the team, and ensuring that there are talent and development plans with each team member.
  • Ensure the Public Markets Platform adheres to M&G's risk and controls framework.
Key Skills, Competencies & Experience:
Skills and Competencies
  • Expert knowledge of the relevant systems, data and operations processes within an asset management or similar organisation.
  • A detailed understanding of the end-to-end investment lifecycle across Equities and/or Fixed Income.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; with the ability to tailor to the audience
  • Good inter-personal and organisations skills;
  • A proven ability to influence and persuade stakeholders up to C-suite
  • Ability to negotiate pragmatic solutions that meet conflicting business requirements
  • Problem solving ability
  • Ability to define and document business requirements and process flows to a high standard;
  • Experience of providing challenge to requirements and proposed solutions;
  • Capable of creating and delivering strategic plans, coordinating and meeting demands from multiple stakeholders
  • Agile delivery expertise
Experience:
  • Experience as a change leader within Asset Management.
  • A background of business analysis and project management would be beneficial
  • Experienced leading teams of direct staff, matrix staff, and strategic partners
  • Experience in implementing operational efficiency initiatives and tools
  • Experience of leading production support and/or technology development teams would be beneficial
  • Solid experience of full front to back Investment lifecycle
  • Previous knowledge of Investment systems and processes - Aladdin is a must.
