Job Description

To lead, manage, and develop the security function across Greenwich Borough Hall, ensuring the safety of staff, visitors, and assets while maintaining full compliance with SIA legislation. The Head of Security provides strategic oversight, operational leadership, and expert decision-making during incidents, events, and day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities1. Leadership & Management



Lead, mentor, and manage a team of SIA-licensed security officers, supervisors, and contractors. Create staff rotas, conduct briefings, and ensure adequate coverage for events and daily operations. Develop and enforce security policies, procedures, and standard operating protocols. Conduct regular training, performance reviews, and disciplinary action if required.

2. SIA Compliance & Regulatory Responsibility



Ensure all operational security activity complies with SIA regulations, licensing requirements, and sector best practice. Maintain accurate records of staff licences, expiry dates, and training certifications. Conduct compliance audits and risk assessments across all security functions.

3. Operational Security & Incident Management



Oversee daily security operations, patrols, access control, and visitor screening. Lead the response to security incidents, emergencies, and critical situations. Coordinate with local authorities, emergency services, venue management, and external partners. Ensure appropriate reporting, incident logs, and investigations are completed.

4. Risk Management & Safeguarding



Conduct and update venue/organisational risk assessments including counter-terrorism, fire safety, crowd management, and safeguarding. Implement preventative measures to minimise risk and enhance security resilience. Ensure staff follow safeguarding, GDPR, and health & safety protocols.

5. Event & Crowd Management Oversight

(if applicable)

Plan security operations for events, high-profile visitors, and VIP engagements. Determine staffing levels, brief officers, oversee ingress/egress, and manage crowd control strategies. Monitor contractor performance and enforce service-level expectations.

6. Building, Asset & Infrastructure Protection



Protect the organisation's property, equipment, and (where relevant) historic fabric or listed-building features. Oversee CCTV systems, alarm systems, access control technology, and key-holding procedures. Conduct regular building checks and ensure immediate reporting of maintenance or security issues.

7. Customer Service & Professional Standards



Promote a high standard of customer service across the security team. Act as a professional point of escalation for guest complaints or behavioural incidents. Represent the venue/organisation in a positive and authoritative manner.

Essential Requirements



Valid

SIA Door Supervisor licence

(additional CCTV licence preferred). Proven experience in a senior security role, Supervisor, Team Leader, or equivalent. Strong leadership and people-management skills. Experience handling incidents, emergencies, and conflict situations. Excellent communication and decision-making skills. Understanding of risk assessments, safeguarding, and health & safety legislation. Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and event days.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience



Experience working in listed buildings, council venues, or large public-facing environments. First Aid & Fire Marshal trained. CT awareness (e.g., ACT Awareness or ACT Operational training). IOSH or equivalent health & safety certification. Experience managing contractors or multi-site security operations. must be local to Greenwich

Working Conditions



Combination of office-based planning and on-the-ground operational oversight. Required to respond to urgent situations at short notice. May involve standing/walking for long periods during events or inspections.
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: 18.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 16 per week
