We are seeking a Head of Technical Services to take on an exciting leadership role managing the Tower Hamlets School PFI and Greenwich School contracts. You'll be based with our team at Trinity Buoy Wharf, working full-time (40 hours/week) from Monday to Friday
As the Head of Technical Services, you will be a key member of the senior management team, holding P&L budgetary responsibility for technical services.
Your primary focus will be to develop and lead the legislative and mandatory compliance strategy and structure. This includes providing essential guidance and support to the operational engineering management team.
You will also be responsible for statutory compliance, supplier management, Defect management, compliance to contractual asset(s) hand back criteria and compliance to CDM. SFG20, HTMs, British Standards.
Responsibilities
This role holds full operational and financial accountability for designated Hard Services sites, ensuring compliant, on-time delivery in line with corporate strategy and legislation.
Compliance Leadership:
You will lead the implementation of corporate policies and manage all critical compliance areas (Fire, Water, Asbestos), ensuring robust processes and timely remediation across East London contracts.
Operational Excellence:
Guarantee that Client SLAs and KPIs are consistently achieved. Provide technical expertise to managers and drive the annual review of maintenance data (CAFM) to inform accurate Lifecycle planning.
Commercial & Strategic Input:
Actively contribute to business development by evaluating and recommending new service scopes. You will maintain knowledge of emerging technologies to ensure commercial viability and support the Account Director in developing strategic direction.
Subcontractor & People Management:
Oversee the performance, safety, and governance of all Hard Services subcontractors. You will be responsible for the recruitment, development, and comprehensive performance management (including training adherence and team relations) of the Hard Services Manager(s).
Audit Closure:
Ensure the efficient, evidence-based closure of all external and internal audit actions, identifying and acting on continuous improvement trends.
Required Experience & Skills
Senior Operational Leadership:
Proven success in senior operational management within a comparable environment, with demonstrable evidence of achieving results at that level.
Hard FM Expertise:
Strong operational knowledge of Hard FM services, including hands-on experience managing lifecycle planning, Planned Maintenance Optimisation (PMO), and building defects.
Compliance & Standards:
Up-to-date, comprehensive knowledge of relevant regulatory and legal compliance, including CDM, SFG20, HTMs, and British Standards.
Audit & Quality:
Experience conducting audit and compliance work within relevant building services.
Commercial Acumen:
Highly commercially astute, with a track record of advising on cost-effective solutions and taking full operational control over key technical delivery and implementation.
Qualifications:
Recognised Health & Safety Qualification (IOSH minimum).
Certified Member of the Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management (CIWFM).
