Located at the heart of historic Leicester, De Montfort University (DMU) views itself as in that its blueprint for the future is based around four key development themes:

There are a number of strands contributing to this including (but not limited to) which is reimagining teaching and learning through a highly acclaimed block teaching approach, the promulgation of a research strategy that sits around five interdisciplinary themes and the opening of two new overseas campuses in Dubai and Kazakhstan.

DMU\'s campus has benefitted from a \xc2\xa3136 million transformation. It is home to around 20,000 students and organises itself across four Faculties. The role in question sits within the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media (CEM). Based in the Queen\'s Building that boasts unique walkways and a light, airy interior, it is a vibrant, diverse community of learning and research.

The School of Engineering and Sustainable Development is a research-active school with state-of-the-art facilities to deliver premium mainstream undergraduate and postgraduate engineering courses. Graduates develop carefully balanced core knowledge and transferable skills needed to engage with solving burning societal issues. The School is also well positioned to support postgraduate research students (PhD and MPhil), working on leading-edge engineering research projects.

Its programmes and facilities are grouped into four broad areas:
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Electronic engineering
  • Aeronautical engineering
  • Energy and sustainable development
The majority of staff are engaged in either research or commercial consultancy in partnership with engineering firms throughout the UK. Research and enterprise activities are facilitated within two research institutes: the Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development and the Institute of Engineering Sciences. The School\'s research and enterprise activity and lab provision allow students to spend a minimum of 50% of their time in a practical setting, developing hands-on skills and engaging with real-world engineering problems.

The School has three subject groups:
  • Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering
  • Electrical, Electronic and Mechatronics
  • Energy and Sustainable Development
The role reports to the Dean and Pro Vice-Chancellor Student Experience, Professor Shushma Patel who joined DMU in 2020. The appointed candidate will be required to provide comprehensive strategic leadership across the School\'s teaching and research portfolios. Applicants should have a strong personal profile and a real appetite to make a positive impact upon what is a very exciting chapter in DMU\'s history. Managerial experience is needed, as is a compelling vision as to how the School can contribute to the overall University strategy and direction of travel.

The salary range for this role is \xc2\xa374,500 to \xc2\xa378,500*. We welcome applications from those who are already Professors, or from aspiring Professors seeking conferment of a Personal Chair, who meet our criteria. The salary range for those applicants meeting our professorial criteria is \xc2\xa373,354 to \xc2\xa3124, 231* - Appointment within this range will depend upon the professorial standing of the applicant.

*Effective from 1 August 2023.
