The role

The University of Bristol is seeking to appoint an outstanding academic leader as the Head of its School of Humanities. Sitting within Bristol\'s Faculty of Arts, Law and Social Sciences, the School undertakes world-class research and is committed to the highest international standards of teaching and student experience.

As Head of School, you will occupy a key academic leadership position within the University. Reporting to the Faculty Dean, you will lead and manage the academic business of the School in relation both to strategy and operations.

What will you be doing?

  • Leading the School\'s academic direction and day-to-day running.
  • Promoting research excellence and fostering a positive, high-performance research culture, in line with the University\'s world-leading research reputation with a particular focus on external grant capture.
  • Ensuring continued excellence in research-led teaching, student experience and educational innovation.
  • Developing the vision and strategy for a world class School of Humanities.
  • Maintaining a positive and collegial working culture across all staff groups, with an emphasis on recruiting and developing colleagues to achieve their full potential and on equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Fostering and developing collaborations with a range of internal and external partners, pertaining both to public engagement and research collaboration.

Additional information

The appointment will be for a fixed term of four years and is subject to renewal. Appointees not continuing in role will take on a substantive professorial position within the School at the end of the term.
