We are pleased to invite internal applications for the role of
Head of Workplace SHEQ
. This is a senior leadership position, responsible for shaping and overseeing Metroline's approach to
workplace safety, health, environmental compliance, and quality standards
.
The successful candidate will lead the implementation of Metroline's integrated SHEQ management systems across all premises, ensuring full statutory compliance, effective contractor oversight, and visible leadership on key workplace safety matters including fire risk, environmental impact, and estate maintenance obligations.
Main Responsibilities
Provide expert advice to the business on SHEQ compliance for all premises, working closely with the Executive and Senior Leadership Teams
Lead the development and implementation of SHEQ policies and systems (ISO 45001, 14001, 9001)
Oversee statutory building safety compliance, fire risk management, and environmental standards
Build and manage a high-performing team of SHEQ professionals, focused on assurance, improvement, and culture change
Act as the competent advisor on contractor safety, CDM compliance, and risk assessments across the portfolio
Support executive governance through robust SHEQ reporting, safety tours, and board-level assurance
Engage with key external stakeholders including TfL, HSE, Fire Service, and environmental agencies
Support emergency planning, business continuity, and high-risk incident oversight
Deputise for the Director of SHEQ when require
Essential Skills
Chartered IOSH membership (or working towards)
Extensive senior-level experience in health and safety leadership
Strong working knowledge of infrastructure-related legislation (fire, CDM, asbestos, legionella, etc.)
Experience managing statutory obligations across multi-site estates
Proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams
Outstanding communication, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills
Demonstrated success in implementing SHEQ systems and delivering cultural change
Desirable Skills
Experience managing ISO accreditations (45001, 14001, 9001)
Recognised fire safety qualification/accreditation
Experience in transport, logistics or operational environments
Hours of work
This role is based on a 38-hour working week, Monday to Friday.
