The postholder will be responsible for leading a team of translational cancer biologists/immunologists ('Oncology Translation Liaison scientists') providing Oncology exploratory biomarker strategy expertise. A strong focus is on 'mechanism-based' multimodal approaches to identify targets and exploratory biomarkers to support the ORU, building on the concept of digital biological twins. Based on GSK proprietary and internally generated from patient derived models and clinical trial samples, the Oncology Translation Liaison Science team will identify new targets & exploratory predictive biomarkers, unravel resistance mechanisms and generate translational hypotheses that will inform on patients stratification to enhance treatment effect.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a team of Oncology Translation Liaison scientists representing OTRO in multidisciplinary trial teams of GSK assets.
Lead on OTR representation and participation in the full development of exploratory predictive biomarkers assays that will be derived from data obtained within the Translational Research Network (TRN) collaborations with Global centres of excellence.
Provide strategic and expert input into digital Path AI based 'exploratory' biomarkers for trials , in close collaboration with Oncology Translational Medicine
Provide contributions to future experimental plan with the Oncology Translational Research wet lab teams, based on a solid 'mechanistic' understanding of multiomic/multimodality translational data from the Translational Research Network
Define the translational cancer strategy responsible for achieving the Oncology Translational Research mission and vision involving 'mechanism-based' multimodal approaches to identify targets and exploratory biomarkers to support the ORU.
Contribute as part of the group organised by Global Regulatory Affairs (GRA) to help communicate new translational research strategies and exploratory biomarker assays (e.g. organoids and organoid-derived surrogate biomarkers) to FDA, EMA and other regulatory authorities.
Partner with the SVP - Oncology Translational Research to develop and execute the organizational scientific strategy, especially in deriving multimodal exploratory precision biomarkers for stratifying combination therapies, initially involving antibody drug conjugate combinations
Lead intra- and inter-department cross-functional teams, working groups or workstreams in support of Oncology Translational Research initiatives.
Lead and drive discovery of exploratory oncology biomarkers, aligning and building sustainable, effective business partnerships within GSK Oncology Clinical Development Leadership (especially the newly established Oncology Clinical Development early science team), Development Leadership (EDL/MDL), Oncology tumor team (OTT), Oncology Translational Medicine (OTM), AIML, Strategic Partnerships Leadership, Research Technologies Leadership, as well as with external partners and collaborators.
Leading and managing external collaborations with research partners
Prepare data presentations and writing governance proposals for support/development and expansion of OTR capabilities
Provide oversight and identify data that may be worth considering patenting (intellectual property (IP) generation) as well as producing IP documents.
Undertake the annual review and setting objectives for direct reports within the Oncology Translational Research team
This position requires an on-site presence a minimum of two days per week at GSK's R&D site in Stevenage/UK.
