Key Tasks & Responsibilities
To ensure the school offers an outstanding experience to all students, including a personalised curriculum, high quality Teaching & Learning and effective pastoral wraparound which would allow our students to make exceptional progress against their starting points.
To ensure compliance with Independent School Standards and OFSTED and / or Estyn regulations.
To lead on the creation, implementation and delivery the Self-Assessment Report (SAR) and School Improvement Plan (SIP).
To be responsible for the Line Management and Performance Management of Teachers and Teaching Assistants.
To undertake formal observations of all teachers.
Carry out supervisions/appraisals on all school staff.
Monitor and oversee all elements of staff roles within the school, to ensure effective use of staff skills.
To liaise regularly with the Registered Manager with regards to the extended learning opportunities, individual student programmes/timetables and whole school target setting.
To monitor and further develop whole school timetables to ensure that the curriculum on offer meets each student's need.
To ensure that the school environment is appropriate and sensitive to the needs of the students, including equipment and resource risk assessments, auditing accident books, behavioural incident investigations, fire checks etc.
To ensure the school day compliments the development, implementation and monitoring of individual students support & curriculum plans.
To monitor that teachers provide detailed curriculum plans, ensuring that each session has clear objectives and planned activities to enhance learning and develop the students transferable/essential skills.
To effectively monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of all Achievement Folders.
To have external awareness of other residential school environments and their successes and developments, promoting positive networking links.
To organise and monitor accreditation and assessment, including the annual baseline assessment of every student and appropriate qualifications/awarding bodies.
To manage and be accountable for the education budgets and resources.
To effectively manage, monitor and control the use of resources, promoting efficient data collection, reporting and analysis (e.g. staff, equipment, materials, premises, services, supplies, finance, energy)
To accept responsibility for developing own knowledge and skills, and for promoting the concept of lifelong learning for the students and staff.
To gain the support, trust and confidence of your own colleagues by providing adequate communication, consultation and involvement in key areas of activity and decision-making and actively supporting the positive ethos of the school and the wider services within the organisation.
Hold and chair effective meetings (e.g. team briefings, staff consultations etc) and ensures that meetings are conducted in a manner which promotes involvement, understanding and achievement of objectives; highlighting themes for the day and areas for improvement.
To provide educationally related reports and statistics for school stakeholders and Senior Management Team when required/appropriate (As part of SAR & SIP).
To maintain effective partnerships with parent/carers to promote students learning and to provide information to parents regarding targets, achievements and progress via the six-monthly review process.
To organise the School's cover arrangements in instances of sickness and absence.
Organise events, occasions and celebrations to maximise student's holistic education.
To be responsible for archiving student progress and the celebration of their personal achievements.
Be a key role model to support staff at times of incidents of challenging behaviour, before, during and after events.
To take on the role as Designated Teacher and liaise with external professionals.
To be part of the DSL team and take the lead on this within the school, as well as supporting within the home setting - including attending weekly DSL meetings.
To support any newly qualified teachers (NQTs) through their induction year, in collaboration with the General Teaching Council (GTC).
Facilitate and conduct Training Courses to staff (applicable to own skills and knowledge base).
Co-ordinate and identify frequent reviews of the Schools structures, key processes, records and systems in line with recommendations for best practice.
To oversee all areas of risk management in relation to educational activities.
Teach where it is deemed necessary to support the needs of the School.
Create a climate which enables other non -teaching staff to develop and maintain positive attitudes and confidence in supporting teaching of various subject areas.
Establish and implement clear policies and practices for assessing, reporting and recording student achievement within all areas including work related learning/vocational studies.
Oversee the production of quality displays around the School and ensure that they are updated regularly and actively promote learning.
Maintain a creative celebration of students across the School environment, overseeing the displays created by subject leaders.
