NSHI have a vacancy for a Band 5 Registered General Nurse (NMC Registered) to facilitate and support headache patients in receiving therapy reviews and optimum treatment within Swansea Bay University Health Board - Morriston Hospital.
This is a 12-month Fixed-Term Contract.

Morriston Hospital is one of the main acute sites within Swansea Bay University Health Board and provides a wide range of specialist services for patients across Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, and the wider South West Wales region. As a major teaching hospital, Morriston serves a large and diverse population and is a regional centre for trauma, emergency care, neurology, renal services, and critical care.
The successful candidate will be an active member of the neurology team and will contribute to improving the management and support of patients with headache conditions. They will also play a key role in service development, pathway optimisation, and collaborative working across the wider multidisciplinary team.

Part-time - equivalent to 2 days per week (22.5 hours) with flexible working patterns considered
Based primarily at Morriston Hospital, with occasional travel to other Swansea Bay University Health Board sites as required
Start date as soon as possible, allowing for any notice period

The successful candidate's roles and responsibilities will include:
Supporting headache patients / facilitate therapy review service
Nurse Responsibilities
1. Follow-up Referrals and Patient Identification
Work with the clinical lead and admin team to identify patients who need a therapy review, following the agreed clinical protocol.
Check that referral details are complete and accurate before the appointment is booked.
Help prioritise patients based on clinical need, highlighting any urgent or complex cases to the clinical lead.
2. Pre-Clinic Preparation
Gather key information before the clinic, such as headache diaries, treatment history, or outcome forms.
Make sure this information is available for the treating clinician ahead of the appointment.
Liaise with admin colleagues to confirm all necessary paperwork, investigations, and patient records are ready for review.
3. During the Clinic / Review Appointment
Support the clinician by ensuring all patient information is accessible and up to date during the review.
Record key outcomes and update electronic records as needed.
Provide clear explanations to patients about their treatment plan, medication use, and next steps, helping to ensure understanding and adherence.
4. Post-Clinic Actions
Complete all follow-up tasks from the clinic, including:
-Arranging prescriptions, investigations, or referrals.
-Booking follow-up appointments.
-Preparing and sending clinic letters or care plans to patients, GPs, and other members of the MDT.
Work closely with the admin team to ensure all actions are completed accurately and on time.
5. Ongoing Monitoring and Service Support
Follow up with patients as needed to check on progress, treatment response, and any side effects, escalating concerns to the clinical lead or MDT.
Keep accurate and up-to-date records to support audits, quality monitoring, and service evaluation.
Take part in MDT meetings and service development discussions to help improve coordination, efficiency, and patient experience.
Working days are: Wednesday & Thursday and 1/2 day Monday or Friday
Package:
The successful applicant will be contracted to work an average of 22.5 hours per week, on a flexible basis to suit the needs of the candidate and the centre. This could be 2 days every week or 2 days one week then 3 days the following week. There is also some flexibility in the actual days worked but fixed days will be Wednesday and Thursday with either Friday or Monday as flexible option. The role will be based across both hospitals within the Trust.
