Our Health and Safety team is recruiting for a Health and Safety Advisor to ensure legislative compliance across the organisation. This role will focus particularly on the continuous improvement of health and safety management systems and processes, including compliance monitoring and auditing across the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA).


Collaborating with internal teams and key stakeholders, you will provide competent health and safety advice, supporting with devising policies, providing guidance to employees and conducting risk assessments and inspections.


Working across our various sites including bus stations, park and ride sites, construction sites and our head office, you will ensure compliance is maintained in relation to the organisation's legal obligations..


This is a great opportunity to make a positive impact to the WMCA and ensure that we are implementing a successful health and safety strategy. This role needs someone who is highly organised, skilled in risk evaluation and mitigation, and possesses a strong understanding of health and safety legislation.

What you will be doing.

Support the Health and Safety Manager in delivering an expert health and safety advice service to the WMCA, elected members, officers and partners. Assist in the effective delivery of the WMCA Health and Safety Strategy and associated delivery plans. Assist in the development, management and continuous review of WMCA Health and Safety policies, procedures, and guidance. Administer the corporate Safety Management System. Carry out proactive monitoring, inspection and auditing of safety arrangements in line with health and safety legislation. Investigate reports of accidents, incidents and near misses, determine their causes and make recommendations for improving recurrence prevention and controls. Assist in the preparation of Health and Safety performance reports. Represent Health and Safety interests at various forums.

What's essential.

Experience of providing competent advice on health and safety matters. Able to interpret health and safety legislation and prepare health and safety policies, procedures, and guidance. A proven track record of delivering health and safety within a multi-disciplinary organisation. Working knowledge of current health and safety legislation and its application relevant to the role. Good analytical skills, able to review information and determine the best approach. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. NEBOSH General Certificate level or equivalent. IOSH Membership - minimum TechIOS.

Location.

The location for this role is 16 Summer Lane, Birmingham, B19 3SD with at least 2 days a week spent in the office.

Salary and benefits.

We advertise salary ranges, with new appointments typically starting at the lowest salary point. In exceptional cases, the salary point may be adjusted to secure the best candidate.
