The group manages and maintains over 500 vehicles and machines from HGV's, shunting tugs, vans, cars and plant.

Job Overview:



We are currently seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to oversee and enhance all aspects of our health, safety and environmental systems.

You will be the go-to expert on H&S legislation, working closely with all levels of the business to ensure full compliance. This is a hands-on role that combines strategy with day-to-day operations, where your input will directly impact safety, culture, compliance and continuous improvement.

We are open to discussions with experienced applicants and also graduate level applicants who are willing to learn and grow into the role. The renumeration for this role will be subject to experience. We are looking for someone to make this role their own and make it a foundation for growth within the business.

Key Responsibilities:



Provide clear and practical advice on H&S legislation to all staff

Create, maintain and review company H&S policies, handbooks, RAMS and safe systems of work and deliver internal training to all employees.

Manage and maintain safety accreditation including Avetta, Safe Contractor and Achilles.

Oversee and ensure all H&S training is up to date.

- Coordinate external training where necessary.

Management of CITATION H&S training system.

Implement and maintain risk assessments, COSHH assessments and safe systems of work.

To represent the business to auditors, customers and regulatory bodies.

Lead internal audits and reviews, and manage corrective action plans.

Assistance with issue of supporting documentation and completion of supplier questionnaires.

Assist with investigations and implementation of disciplinary proceedings when relevant to health and safety matters.

Work alongside HR to carry out Drug and Alcohol tests for all new joiners.

Responsible for ensuring all safety legislation is adhered to.

Advising on a range of specialist areas e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases

Oversee the reporting and investigation of all incidents and near misses.

Liaising with our Health and Safety Consultant when required.

Communicating health and safety updates across the group

: Should be capable of multitasking within clearly defined timelines.

Communication skills

: Should possess both written and verbal communication skills. A natural communicator, comfortable dealing with people at all levels.

Problem Solving skills

: Effective problem solving requires a combination of creative and analytical thinking.

Assessing and interpreting risks

: Risk management processes involve identification, analysis, planning, monitoring, reporting and control. The Health & Safety Advisor / Manager should be familiar with all these steps and should choose to operate accordingly.

Critical Thinking

: Critical thinking is a desirable skill. Rational and clear thinking about risk analysis should be a core skill.

Integrity

: Should demonstrate Integrity at all times. Regulation management process can only be implemented and accomplished effectively if the officers carrying out the inspection reports have strong moral principles and honest quality.

People skills/relationship building

: Should be non-confrontational and non-aggressive and a healthy workplace requires this.

Industry / IT Knowledge

: Business & IT knowledge also plays a huge part of the role.

Knowledge with H&S legislation is essential



Experience:



IOSH or NEBOSH qualifications desirable.

Sound knowledge of HSE and environmental regulations.

Experience of working in a blue-collar environment would be essential e.g. logistics, warehouse, construction, etc.

Ability to communicate at all levels both verbally and in writing.

Educating employees about risks and how to work safely.
