Job Summary


We are looking for a Health and Safety Manager that will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing policies and procedures that ensure a safe working environment in our work within the Utility industry (Gas mains replacement focused) The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations and fostering a proactive safety culture across our business.

This position involves conducting inspections, enforcing regulations, and educating our people on health and safety standards.

Duties



Policy Development

: Create and enforce health and safety plans that align with legal standards and organisational goals.

Risk Assessment

: Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.

Training & Education

: Deliver training sessions, toolbox talks, and inductions to educate staff on safety protocols.

Incident Investigation

: Investigate workplace accidents and near-misses to determine root causes and prevent recurrence.

Compliance Monitoring

: Ensure adherence to Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations, industry regulations and industry best practices.

Reporting

: Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, and safety performance metrics.

Stakeholder Engagement

: Collaborate with employees, contractors, and leadership to promote safety awareness and resolve concerns.

Continuous Improvement

: Benchmark safety performance and implement strategies for ongoing improvement

Experience



Experience within the field of Health and Safety. Utility construction, or engineering sectors is preferred. NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent health and safety certification. Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation. Excellent communication and leadership skills. Analytical mindset with attention to detail. Proficiency in report writing is essential, with the ability to communicate findings clearly and effectively. Knowledge of the utility industry is advantageous, enhancing the ability to respond to incidents/issues effectively. Strong analytical skills, particularly in conducting root cause analysis to identify underlying issues affecting public health. Excellent interpersonal skills to engage with employees, clients suppliers and stakeholders effectively.
