We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and self-motivated person to become the Council's Health and Safety Compliance Officer. Ideally you will have experience of working as a Health and Safety Officer in the public or private sector. Experience of working with the waste or transport industries would be very beneficial. You should have an excellent knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, policies and guidance and be able apply that knowledge in practical situations.
Your main role will be providing advice to Senior Leadership and colleagues regarding Health and Safety compliance, making sure that there is a high level of compliance with legislation and good practice, ensuring a safe, healthy workforce. Good communication skills are key as you will be dealing with colleagues with a variety of different working backgrounds and experiences on a day-to-day basis. You will be expected to lead H&S improvement plans and report performance to the senior leadership team via the Performance Board.
We have recently procured new Health and Safety compliance software so part of the role will be assisting with its implementation across all Council services and then using the system to monitor and support compliance.
You will be part of the Environmental Health and Licensing team that strives to do the best for our customers, contributes to the wider corporate agenda and supports the development of team members. The team cover a wide range of roles including Emergency Planning, Business Continuity, Health and Safety enforcement and Licensing to name a few.
We know that not all candidates will meet every single desired attribute. If your experience or qualifications looks a little different from what we've identified and you think you can bring value to the role, we'd love to learn more about you! The interview will be an opportunity for you to tell us more about your knowledge and experience.
For an initial discussion please contact Ian Luscombe, Head of Environmental Health and Licensing at ian.luscombe@swdevon.gov.uk or 01822 813713 or Karen Proctor, Principal Environmental Health Officer at karen.procter@swdevon.gov.uk or 01803 861128.
