Job spec:
To oversee and ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, conduct site inspections, support the creation and review of RAMS, and embed safe systems of work across multiple flooring projects.
Key Responsibilities
On-Site Safety
Conduct regular site safety inspections and audits across all active flooring projects.
Ensure operatives follow RAMS, COSHH, PPE, and equipment safety requirements.
Advise site supervisors on safe floor preparation methods (e.g., grinding, adhesive use, raised access floor installations).
Investigate near-misses, accidents, or breaches; complete reports and recommend corrective actions.
Documentation & Compliance
Prepare, review, and update Risk Assessments & Method Statements (RAMS) for all work types.
Ensure correct handling and COSHH compliance for adhesives, levelling compounds, and other materials.
Maintain and update site safety files, toolbox talks, and training records.
Draft and revise health & safety policies and procedures in line with current UK legislation (HASWA, CDM 2015, PUWER, etc.).
Training & Culture
Deliver or coordinate toolbox talks, inductions, and briefings tailored to flooring trades.
Promote a strong safety culture by working closely with floor layers, supervisors, and subcontractors.
Support SSIP accreditation and client compliance (e.g., CHAS, SafeContractor, Constructionline).
Person Specification
NEBOSH General Certificate or SMSTS
Minimum 3 years' H&S experience in construction (ideally interior fit-out or flooring)
Strong working knowledge of UK H&S legislation
Experience preparing RAMS, COSHH assessments, and safety audits
Excellent written communication and report writing skills
Full UK driving licence; own transport
Able to work independently across multiple sites
Typical Workload
1-2 site visits per week, plus remote policy/documentation work
Weekly H&S reporting
RAMS drafting per project start
Ad hoc support for pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQs)
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: 18,000.00-46,483.63 per year
Expected hours: 6 - 20 per week
