Men and Women in Sheds Project Co-ordinators and Cafe Supervisor
Responsible for:
Volunteers at Otway, High Hopes and Sunlight Cafe
Hours:
15 hours per week (working flexibly to ensure service delivery Tuesday 10:00 to 15:00 Otway Community Garden, Wednesdays 10:00 to 15:00 set up a new Therapeutic Arts Group in our Wellbeing Cafe and Thursday 10:00 to 15:00 at High Hopes Community Garden, which includes before and after the session for shopping and paperwork.
(Occasional evenings and weekends events which may be taken as TOIL or overtime)
Salary:
12.60 per hour (living wage employer) pro-rota
Annual leave:
25 days per annum plus bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time hours)

Sunlight Centre with occasional outreach across Medway

Aims of the post
A health and wellbeing facilitator's job involves delivering educational programs and activities that empower individuals and groups to improve their physical and mental health by identifying needs, developing action plans, building confidence, and connecting them with appropriate support services. This role requires strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, a proactive and motivational approach, and often experience working with vulnerable groups or individuals with specific needs, such as those with learning disabilities, physical or mental health difficulties.
The post holder will work closely with staff and volunteers to develop and deliver high-quality services for community members across Medway. The post holder will be expected to work closely with all staff to ensure the health, safety and security of community members, the site and Trust property.
Key Responsibilities
1. Facilitate group sessions: Deliver creative, challenging, and engaging sessions to promote positive behaviour changes related to lifestyle choices, such as nutrition and physical activity.
2. Empower individuals: Help people understand their health needs, set personal goals, and develop strategies for managing their own health and wellbeing by setting up a group session and having 1:1s.
3. Promote confidence and self-advocacy: Support participants to increase their self-confidence and develop communication skills to articulate their needs and access relevant services effectively.
4. Connect people with support: Guide individuals to engage with appropriate health and social care services, community resources, and support networks.
5. Develop and manage activities: Design and implement a variety of health and wellbeing activities and programs, both inside and outside of a designated centre or organization.
6. Monitor and evaluate services: Participate in the collection of data and feedback to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs, aiming to improve the overall service.
7. Record keeping and reporting: Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions and progress using designated databases or systems.

Cafe Sunlight, Community Gardens and Arts Groups (4 sessions per week)
1. Actively promote health issues positively and contribute to the development of best practice by joining Medway Food Partnership, Medway Champions etc. to develop our healthy eating programme with seasonal soups, salads and fruit on Mondays. Collect and distribute surplus food from Fareshare to reduce food waste.
2. Employability skills for volunteers and work experience students to grow organic fresh fruit and vegetables from our community gardens which can be sold for donations or donated to the cafe / community members. Demonstrating composting, permaculture and hydroponics. Supervising catering, customer service and hospitality skills within the cafe.
3. Community Engagement: connect with community members to identify needs and interests, then develop and implement programs that address those needs with a focus on health and wellbeing including volunteer rotas and creation of a plant and produce swap, share or buy stall at Otway and the Centre, Seeds Swap Stalls etc.
4. Arts Instruction and workshop leadership: teach various art forms, including music, drama, dance, visual arts, and more, tailoring their approach to the specific community and project. Providing guidance and support to participants as they explore their creativity and develop new skills.
Finance, Fundraising, Marketing and Communications
1. Ensure that all procedures are adhered to and ensure the flow of relevant information to Finance for any purchases with company credit card and sign off petty cash expenditure. Increase profit from cafe and product sales from our community gardens and events.
2. Effectively facilitate service delivery and comply with all associated contractual requirements, developing and maintaining proactive and effective relationships with funders and corporate sponsors.
3. Oversee the planning, organization, and execution of community arts and crafts projects, ensuring they run smoothly and achieve their goals, collaborating with other artists, community organizations, and volunteers to bring arts projects to life by cultivating a love of the arts within the community, encouraging participation and developing future artists.
4. Communicate effectively with reports and associated documentation of a high standard with photos, testimonials and case studies, plus promote our services, including stakeholder engagement, corporate sponsorship, digital fundraising, design, print and production, social media, website, press and radio.
General, Health and Safety, Risk Assessments and Safeguarding:
1. Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements and manage health & safety within the services including risk assessments and building / garden security. Work with the Manager to ensure site security and safety, including complying with site health and safety responsibilities, reporting health and safety issues on site, faulty equipment and take remedial action to ensure the security and safety of site users.
2. Follow, review and update all risk assessments plans and report any incidents, area of risk and/or changes or concerns to the Manager and attend all supervision sessions or notified meetings plus all mandatory training sessions and carry out caseload risk assessment and have these verified/authorised by your line manager and report any concerns to our Designated Safeguarding Lead to ensure a timely escalation.
3. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and procedures in relation to our community cafe and voluntary services, providing holiday cover for team as required.
4. All employees have a responsibility and a legal obligation to ensure that information processed for both service users, volunteers and staff is kept accurate, confidential, secure and in line with the Data Protection Act (1998) and Security and Confidentiality Policies. Maintain the confidentiality of all personal data in line with the provision of the Data Protection Act.
5. Challenge inappropriate behaviour or conduct of visitors to the site, in line with the Trust's values and ethos, ensuring Health and Safety procedures are followed by all service users.
