The Health and Wellbeing Policy Lead is a key role leading the health team and working closely with Sport England\xe2\x80\x99s Place and Partnerships teams to deliver an ambitious plan to mobilise the Health, Social Care and Charity sectors to advocate for movement, physical activity and sport. You will be responsible for shaping how we continue to connect with key partners including NHS Horizons, the Richmond Group of Charities, Mind and Intelligent Health. You will lead policy development in this area working closely with colleagues internally and key partners and stakeholders externally, including across multiple touchpoints within national and regional government to leverage impactful change. All of your work will feed into Sport England\xe2\x80\x99s aims to increase activity, decrease inactivity, tackle inequality and create positive experiences for children and young people.

Reporting to the Executive Director for Policy and Integrity, you will be responsible for scoping our strategic focus for Health and Wellbeing and any associated budget to deliver our ambitions. You will help position our existing and future work so that it has the greatest impact using insight, data and best practice as key fundamentals to your approach.

Role Purpose

The Health and Wellbeing Policy Lead is a key role leading the health team and working closely with Sport England\xe2\x80\x99s Place and Partnerships teams to deliver an ambitious plan to mobilise the Health, Social Care and Charity sectors to advocate for movement, physical activity and sport.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Proven ability to build and motivate high performing teams and create a learning culture with colleagues that operate across a range of disciplines and working over a wide geographic area.
  • Relevant experience in a senior role where Health and Wellbeing policy is an aspect of the work.
  • Extensive experience of influencing policy development or creating change.
  • Excellent relationship management skills
  • Proven ability to create collaborative relationships, including between organisations who don\xe2\x80\x99t have a history of working together.
  • Extensive experience of advocating and championing the issues of health inequalities and disparities and an empathy with the issues these communities face.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to pro-actively identify opportunities, define problems and achieve creative solutions.
  • Experience of delivering positive outcomes for underrepresented and excluded groups/communities
  • Understanding and awareness of the political environment with regards to health systems and policy at a national and local level.
  • Ability to overcome barriers and solve complex issues, applying sound judgement to make decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to present complex messages at a high level and in an engaging style.
  • Ability to review complex data sets and present relevant insights
  • Experience of developing positive relationships with senior colleagues and working in a collegiate and supportive way.
Desirable
  • Experience of effective evaluation of data sets
  • Previous experience of working in a politically sensitive environment
