Job Description

Eynsham Medical Group is a friendly, supportive and innovative training practice, providing primary care to over 16,000 patients across two sites.

We are looking for an experienced Health Care Assistant to join our excellent nursing team. However, we will be happy to provide training for the right candidate. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.You will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing phlebotomy and other related services to support the clinical teams.

The hours will need to be worked across 3 set weekdays, ideally Monday and Tuesday morning, and Wednesday afternoon. This may be open to discussion for the right candidate. Please note that there may be very occasional weekend working on Saturdays (at enhanced pay rate).

Responsible to:



Nurses/ GPs / Practice Manager and deputy

Job Purpose:



To provide support to the Nurses and General Practitioners to ensure the efficient and effective provision of the full range of nursing services to the patients of the Practice.

Duties and Responsibilities



Clinical



To undertake all duties in line with the training and instruction provided by the Nurses and General Practitioners Conduct weight and height measurements, test and record blood pressure The testing and result recording of clinical specimens Ensuring patient care by chaperoning Venepuncture and the taking and preparing of pathology samples Undertake ECG Assist with the provision of health checks The collection of clinical waste, ensuring appropriate storage prior to disposal The ongoing cleaning and sterilisation of clinical equipment and working surfaces, preparing treatment rooms prior to use Ensure adequate infection control procedures in treatment and consulting rooms Administering flu and pneumonia vaccines under PSD Administering prescribed B12 injections on the appropriate due date Annual diabetic foot checks Assist in the training of new staff, trainee GPs and students Assist with intrauterine coil fitting as required

Administration



The checking and recording of medical supplies on receipt Communicating with the multidisciplinary team relevant information in a timely manner The inputting of information onto the Practice clinical system Ensure confidentiality of all patient information Undertake all training required as standard by the practice e.g. Resus training

General



To ensure adequate clinical stock levels and medical stationery and maintain an effective stock management system Ensure adequate stock levels in stock room, treatment rooms, fridges and cupboards Any other reasonable duties which may be requested from time-to-time Including role development, extended duties and overtime cover for holidays etc

Desirable



Wound care and leg ulcer dressings Removal of skin closures, sutures/clips/steristrips Doppler studies Compression hosiery measuring and fitting

Person Specification



Experience



Essential



Evidence of IT literacy and keyboard skills (typing) Understanding of role of the Health Care Assistant. Ability to contribute effectively to team meetings Good time management skills, punctual, able to manage and prioritise work load Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work unsupervised Hold a current and full driving licence and have access to a car

Desirable



Experienced Health Care Assistant Experience in wound care

Qualifications



Desirable



Qualified in Phlebotomy Qualified to NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care Qualified to NVQ level 3 Recognised training in wound care

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: 12.60-13.00 per hour
