Job Description

An exciting vacancy has arisen for a part time Health Care Assistant (HCA) to work 3 days (approximately 24 hours over Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) but with flexibility to cover annual leave when required. You will have general practice experience including phlebotomy and NHS health checks.

Salary is dependent on experience but pay rate is increased after a successful probation period.

To work alongside the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the patient population. The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

We are a very friendly rural practice with a growing list size of approx. 5400. Our team comprises four GP's, one Advanced Nurse Practitioner, one Clinical Pharmacist, two Practice Nurses and a very supportive patient services team and 2 Practice Managers. We are also a dispensing practice. We also have access to Clinical Pharmacists, Personalised Care Team, First Contact Physio through our PCN.

We have a morning meeting every day where the staff have a chance to have a break and a coffee and have the chance to discuss important issues.

Experience of working in general practice is preferred but full training will be given.

This is subject to periodic review and development.

The following are the core responsibilities of this role:

Undertake new patient health checks Support the nursing team with health promotion programmes Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately Undertake wound care, uncomplex dressings and other clinical tasks as required Support the nursing team with the management of chronic disease clinics Carry out BMI checks as directed Act as a chaperone as required When trained, undertake venepuncture When trained, administer flu vaccinations and other immunisations Carry out ECGs as requested Ensure the correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples, Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation Provide support during minor operations as required ensuring consent received Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample Perfoming venepunture in accordance with practice protocols Maintaining accurate patient records on Systmone Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner Maintaining an effective liaison with the laboratory staff Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters Removal of sutures and staples Carry out urinalysis and pregnancy testing Assist with Doppler investigations and taking stocking measurements

Qualifications



Essential criteria



Competent in Phlebotomy with proven experience GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care

Desirable criteria



Experience of working in a GP practice Qualified to NVQ level 4
