Healthcare Assistants must be well versed in a number of care and medical techniques. They must be informed about the most recent care techniques available and always be looking for ways to improve their skills and knowledge. You'll work under the guidance of our staff nurses and you duties will include:
Assisting with daily living activities such as eating, showering and using the toilet
Assisting with residents care of hair, oral care, nail care and pressure areas
Utilising equipment to move residents when necessary
Helping tidy the residents rooms
Taking the residents vital signs such as blood pressure and temperature
Talking to residents and reassuring them
Assisting nurses and other staff when needed
Adhering to professional standards
Delivering reports and paperwork to nurses and supervisors and reviewing any important changes in the residents condition
To be a healthcare assistant, you'll need to be
caring and kind
cheerful and friendly
willing to be hands-on with patients
willing to do personal care tasks (washing, toileting, etc)
able to follow instructions and procedures
able to work in a team but use their own initiative
able to respect the confidence of our residents and be aware that all information pertaining to the residents and their treatment should be treated in the strictest confidence
You'll also need
communication skills, including listening
organisation skills
observational skills
to be aware of your own limitations
Requirements
You will have to hold an NVQ Level 2 or equivalent or be willing to work towards one
To undertake our relevant online training courses which will keep you aware of issues regarding our residents
