Job Description

Chapel Lane Surgery and The Hollies Surgery in Formby are looking for a dynamic and dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join our busy supportive Nursing Team. This role will specifically support HCA clinics. The role is varied and includes seeing patients to take bloods, blood pressure, patients with hypertension, providing flu vaccinations and more.

Knowledge of EMIS and experience of working in General Practice is desirable.

We are a friendly welcoming training practice of approximately 11,600 patients. We pride ourselves on being open, friendly and accessible. Our practice hours are Monday to Friday 8.00am until 6.30pm, and for the successful candidate we are looking to recruit 37.5 hours across Monday to Friday. There is some flexibility with start and finish times and are open to recruiting two part time members of staff.

JOB SUMMARY



The purpose of the post is to assist the GPs and nurse team in the delivery of safe, high quality primary care services to the practice population. The post holder will undertake delegated tasks and duties under indirect supervision of members of the nurse team. The post holder will work within clear parameters and lines of accountability after appropriate training and assessment of competence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES



Working within guidelines and protocols undertake and record Long Term Condition physical checks using Ardens Templates within the clinical system (EMIS) including:
- Urinalysis and preparation of specimens for laboratory analysis

- Weight, height, waist circumference and Body Mass Index

- Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring

- Manual Pulse Checks

- Obtain venous blood samples from patients to send to the laboratory

- Diabetic Foot Checks

- Administer medications by injection with the appropriate legal authorisation for example B12, Shingles, Flu and Pneumonia

- Memory check (6CIT)

- New Patient Health Checks

Administrative/service support



Assist with management of clinical supplies e.g. monitoring stock levels, ordering, re-stocking of clinical areas and maintenance of equipment. Participate in quality improvement e.g. audit, development of protocols and newservices. Attend practice/clinical/nurse meetings and contribute to the agenda in the development of the nursing service and where appropriate wider practice systems.

Personal/professional development



Complete statutory training/updating and mandatory training as specified by the practice policy. Achieve competence in the 16 standards of the Care Certificate Framework within three months of appointment if not already held Complete skills specific training and regular updating. Participate in an annual individual performance review including maintaining a record of own personal and professional development. Take responsibility for own development, learning and performance and identify gaps in knowledge and skills. Inform practice manager or registered nurse if unable to perform any aspect of role competently.

Health and safety



Use practice security systems according to practice guidelines. Identify risks in work activities and report to practice nurse or practice manager(s). Follow appropriate infection control procedures. Maintain work areas in a tidy and safe manner. Communicate effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet people's needs.

There may be a requirement to work across practices therefore candidates need to be flexible. The practices are located a short five-minute walk away from each other. Previous experience in GP would be desirable.
