Health Care Assistant





Monday to Friday, 8.00 am- 5.00 pm


Salary - 22,330.35 - 24,988.73 per annum, including holiday pay


37.2 weeks per annum (Term Time, Inset Days and 2 weeks during school holidays)


To start as soon as possible

Duties will include:


To be responsible for the day to day running of the medical room To be the first point of call for all attending the medical room

The Post




This is a new and exciting opportunity for an energetic and enthusiastic Health Care Assistant to join our busy Health and


Wellbeing team, working in the Great Walstead (GWS) Medical room. We are looking for someone who has a genuine desire


to play an active part in the health and wellbeing of our students. This job aims to enhance the provision for students (aged


2-13) over the week. The possibility of a job share would be considered for the right candidates.


The purpose of the role is to

:


To cover the GWS medical room and be the first port of call first aid, minor injuries, illness and pastoral care. To assist the School Nurses to provide a clinically effective, high quality service of nursing care to students and first
aid care to all members of the school community both academic and non-academic.
To assist with health care administrative duties. To provide first aid care and treatment to pupils when required.

Duties and Responsibilities





Main Responsibilities





To attend to the clinical needs of all who come into the GWS medical room. To communicate as appropriate with the
School Nurse, parents and those who have care of pupils.


To be aware of, and implement, routine procedures as outlined in the medical handbook. To adhere to Individual Health Care Plans for pupils with specific health care needs. To actively support the holistic well-being of all pupils. To assist with ensuring a smooth running and efficient health service. To provide a high standard of service to students, their families, employees and visitors. To provide relevant medical care and treatment where necessary, and onward referral to the School Nurse when
appropriate.


To liaise closely with colleagues, parents/teachers to ensure seamless and continuous care for pupils. Health Care Assistant August 2025

Assisting in organising the external immunisation visits (Flu and HPV) To ensure children are given food and drink whilst in the Medical room as appropriate. Promote and enhance health and wellbeing to children and their families under the supervision of the school nurse To adhere to the Ardingly College policies and procedures. Monitoring clinical observations as required, such as temperature, respiration rate, heart rate, blood pressure and
head injury assessments.


To ensure accurate record keeping in student's health files Promote and support an effective team ethos through the use of excellent communication skills. Be committed to developing own knowledge and skills, attending study days and attending training as required. Assess and manage own workload under the supervision of the school nurse. To highlight any risks, adverse events or near misses to the nurse in charge and record this in the accident book. To participate in Performance Development Reviews (PDR) To adhere to the Clinical Supervision Policy and participate in clinical supervision. To represent Ardingly College Health Centre in a positive and professional manner at all times. To liaise with other health and social care professionals in order to ensure partnership working and enhanced
communication.


To work with a degree of accountability and to the Policies and Guidelines of Ardingly College.

Medical Records and Administration





To ensure comprehensive notes and records are made in relation to incidents/accidents, and reported to relevant staff
as necessary, in accordance with the school's safeguarding procedures.
To assist with maintaining medical records accurately, confidentially and safely ensuring a rapid retrieval system is in
place.
To assist with ensuring relevant medical advice/guidance notes are prepared for pupils for trips (day & residential),
events, weekly sports fixtures, after school activities and visits to the school woods.
To follow procedures for safe disposal of clinical waste. To ensure safe storage and use and disposal of medical supplies and drugs. To assist with maintaining treatment room stock, hygiene and housekeeping standards. To assist with monthly checks of emergency equipment, such as Defib, emergency AAI`s and Asthma kits. To assist with the maintenance and stock replenishment of all First Aid Kits. To respond to medical centre inbox emails promptly and liaise with school nurse appropriately

General Requirements





To carry out all duties in accordance with the School's Health and Safety Policy and Procedures and in accordance
with Health and Safety Legislation as appropriate.
To comply with operating policies and procedures as issued from time to time, particularly the School's Safeguarding
Policy.
To positively contribute to the performance management process and to the job holder's own personal development
- particularly in respect of CPD.
To carry out any other duties that might reasonably be required from time to time according to the needs of the college. A degree of flexibility is required, to provide first aid cover for sporting fixtures and any other school events that require
first aid presence.
A willingness to work cross sites (Ardingly and GWS) as required.

Essential Desirable



Experience and


Knowledge


Experience of working within education, childcare provision or


paediatric healthcare.


Knowledge and experience of providing First Aid.


Qualifications First Aid Trained or Relevant Clinical Experience


Must hold a current UK Driving Licence and have independent


means of transport.


Paediatric First Aid.


Skills An excellent team player with an ability to demonstrate flexibility,


who can work collaboratively or independently as required.


Organised, efficient, able to identify and achieve prioritised

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly


listening skills combined with the ability to understand others'

Possess good basic office administration skills - including ICT


(MS Office suite especially Outlook, Word and Excel and


experience of utilising databases).
