Job Description


1. To assist qualified staff in undertaking personal care duties for patients.
2. To report patient condition to qualified staff.
3. To seek clarification from trained staff whenever the post holder is uncertain about their responsibilities or duties at any time.
4. To provide personal care to elderly patients with care and compassion
5. To respect patients individuality and maintain privacy and dignity

  • Provide reassurance and support to patients and carers/family.
  • Provide information to enable the effectiveness of care to be evaluated and records maintained.
  • Report any concern regarding patient care.
  • Be able to locate all policies relating to good working practice within the clinical area and able to adhere to them.
  • At the direction of the registered nurse participate fully in the delivery of planned nursing care.
  • Serve drinks and meals to patients and to give assistance to those patients requiring help.
  • Assist in bed making and the disposal of soiled linen.
  • Chaperone patients as necessary.
  • Undertake the recording of temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate and pulse oximetry, also fluid input and output, and report findings to the nurse in charge of patient care.
  • Collecting and testing specimens as required and reporting abnormalities
  • Ensure safekeeping of patient\xe2\x80\x99s property and valuables within Trust guidelines
  • Work collaboratively with others in the ward to ensure that patient\xe2\x80\x99s needs are meet.
  • Be aware of your competence and acknowledge your own boundaries asking for assistance as required.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
  • To work within hospital guidelines in infection prevention and control.
  • To communicate in a positive manner with vulnerable and elderly patients
